Having stayed in budget hotels in Nanjing, Beijing, shanghai and Yangshuo, the Canaan was the worst out of the five and for pretty much the same price. Although billed as a hotel for foreign travellers the staff were not up to the level of english I'd have liked. The room (standard) was cleaned each day but remained dirty in the bathroom, and the windows were filthy. The room was quite cold (temp outside wass -7) having only the ac unit to heat it. The entrance is down a back road behind the Hyatt if you are looking for it . I would recommend Golden Hans 40meters away for food and drinks but I didn't like the hotel or the city which is very poluted although I guess the terracotta warriors are a must for a true tour of China. Plus I'll also point out that taxis are hard work in that they tell you they will go not take you you where you want to go. This is quite annoying when its a 5km walk back to the S**T* hotel. With hindsight I would have stayed one night not 3 and just seen the warriors, although the museum and pagodas were good. I resent the time i spent in X'ian when Yangshuo was so much nicer and wish I'd had more time there.
