“Dramatic sculpture”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

This nice hotel had a beautiful full wall sculpture of Terra Cotta Warriors in the courtyard just behind the front desk, making for a dramatic entry. The rooms were large and nice, bed reasonably comfortable, although all beds in China are quite hard. Didn't really walk anywhere around the hotel, since we were on a group tour and were kept very busy, so don't know what kind of neighborhood it was in. Included breakfast was quite adequate with a decnt selection of Western along with Chinese foods.

The Grand New World hotel in Xi'an was a slice of America transported to China. Service was slightly variable. E.g. I had to go to 3 receptionists in order to find the one who was allowed to do checkouts. English from staff was variable though usually adequate.

Nightly dance show and meal wasn't bad although I generally don't like that kind of thing. Meal felt slightly rushed in order to start dance show on time.

This hotel had a nice feel to it. The room was large and comfortable. The breakfast was western as well as Chinese and very good. We went to the evening Tang Dynasty show with dumplings which was very good. The price of beer in the hotel was expensive, although the beer at the show was quite reasonable. Go across the road and turn left. Go down the street a little and you can get two beers for 10¥ and get some of the local atmosphere.

Nothing bad to say about this hotel but it is only average. So if price is important than this might be a good choice. The hotel is getting a little old in the tooth and the rooms, especially bathrooms, are small.

My wife and I have just returned from the Hayes & Jarvis 'Chinese treasures' tour which included a 2 night stay at this hotel. We thought it was the best of the various hotels we stayed in during the entire tour. The feel of the place is nearer 5 star than 4. The lobby has the most amazing carved mural which stands around 40 feet high and has at its base a beautiful pool full of Khoi carp. We had an executive room which was simply faultless in terms of cleanliness, facilities and comfort. The customer experience was further enhanced when my wife asked for an adapter for her mobile phone charger. When she ade a similar request in Beijing it took the front desk staff almost 30 mins to understand and respond to the request! In Xian it was brought within 5 mins. Similarly our request for a softer pillow was attended to in a similar timescale. We attended a Tang Dynasty theatre show actually held n the hotels own theatre complex. The is a fantastic experience and we would highly recommend it for the spectacular dances and clothes worn by the various dancers. A dinner meal is also included.

This was included in our trip with Gate One. Not bad. It wasn't elegant upscale, but neither was what we paid for. It was clean, private bath, hot water, good breakfast. location was irrelevant because we toured on a bus. we would stay again !

Having had a less than satisfactory hotel in Beijing, I was delighted seeing the grand lobby and beautiful mural adorning the coy carp pool at the Grand New World. However, the rooms were the acid test and ours thankfully was very good. It was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was also very good - Western as well as Chinese and the service was attentive and friendly. Beware of the bait and switch in the spa. Having climbed the Great Wall the day before I was delighted to see very reasonable rates for a foot massage. However, once captive I was told the posted price was for a "white cream" proffered to me in a large unlabeled tub. I was told if I wanted the "special oil" it would be 30% higher in price. I chose the oil. The masseuse was aggressive and unfriendly until the end when she asked me to tip her in the cubical otherwise the tip went to the owner! If you on a tour like we were with Gate 1, ask them for a recommendation for a local massage. There is a great place 2 blocks down from the hotel. It was only written in Mandarin and they don't speak English. They have a massage "menu" with descriptions and pricing in English. The place looks like a tatty knocking shop but its great! I had a fantastic body massage for $30.
