“Amazed by the symmetry”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

This was built in the Tang dynasty and considering how long ago that was, I cannot help but wonder how people from, those days can construct a tower of this height with such precise symmetry!

It is a nice sight to explore and do be reminded that it is still an active temple so be mindful.

“Well maintained attraction and tranquility”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

The Wild Goose Pagoda was a complete surprise. From the time I entered the gates, it felt like a sanctuary amidst the hustle and bustle of busy Xian. The gardens and surroundings were meticulously maintained while the buildings were all still in use and open to the public. The aspect I liked most was seeing the monks in prayer and being able to convince one of them to pose for my photograph. I could have spent more time in this tranquil oasis in the middle of the city.

“New Buildings Not Needed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

The pagoda held a big significance to the history of Buddhism in Xi'an and unfortunately, the addition of the new temple structures in front of the pagoda is lessening the overall importance of the pagoda. In the interest of commercializing this tourist attraction and having the temples built, this is fast becoming (if not already so by the big shopping complexes immediately surrounding the pagoda) just another tourist trap eliminating the historical grandeur of the monk who journeyed to India from here.

“Not as peaceful as some reviewers suggest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

This was a very busy attraction but worth visiting despite the crowds. In the centre of Xian this complex of shrines and temples has a lot more to offer than just the Pagoda which can be seen from many parts of the city. While here it is worth a walk down the very traditional street to the side of the Pagoda where cheap souvenirs, clothes and Chinese Muslim street food are available.
We also loved the name of the restaurant opposite the Pagoda, Mr Prawn's Holy Soup.
