“Non smokers beware!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013 via mobile

This hotel is on the face of it a standard 4 star hotel with 3 star service in an excellent location. Westerners beware, the non-smoking description really means they have put 'no smoking' signs in the corridors, somewhat amusingly above the supplied corridor ashtrays (obviously to encourage you to quit). The non smoking room supplied also stunk of stale cigarette smoke. The breakfasts were buffet style and ok, but the chefs literally couldn't fry an egg safely. Overall not a bad place to stay if you don't want to pay for a western chain hotel! I wish we did though...

Like previous reviewers have said, it's all about location, location, location at this hotel. I knew going into it that the bathrooms probably wouldn't be up to Days Inn standards, and they weren't. Mold, cracking ceilings, gross tiles, stained tubs. Lousy wifi in the lobby area only. Breakfast was fine, nothing great. Neighborhood and views and location overall was spectacular. Just know what you are paying for, and if it is still a good value, you will be very happy. I thought it was worthwhile to give up a decent bathroom for the views, and therest of the room was fine other than the carpet and oriental rug needing to be cleaned. We had two rooms for our family, and they both had similar bathroom problems. If the management would just work on refurbishing the bathrooms in this hotel, they would certainly be making a huge improvement and probably be able to increase their revenue as a result, but I do not have the impression that they care much. They have a gift shop in the lobby with about a dozen postcards that have postage on them that are old, shopworn and the pictures on them would be of interest to very few. They could simply update the postcards to the views that their rooms have and probably sell out. No one seems to go into the gifts hop beyond a very brief glance. It too has so much unused potential. That is such a disappointment. I would stay here again only because of the views and awesome location. It is hard to recommend it beyond that. I also need to note that there is noticeable noise from speakers outside (until midnight both nights we were there), Classical Chinese music one night and other music the next night, as well as typical street noise. The beds were a little firm, typical for Chinese hotels.

Room Tip: Don't stay here unless you plan to stay in a Bell Tower View room.

Whilst this hotel needs updating, it's value for money, great location to shuttle bus from & to airport, along with its closeness to public transport to all attractions, along with the Bell tower itself across the street and Drum Tower very close. It also has the Muslim square within a half a kilometre from the hotel. Bed hard , breakfast time, you need to get in early and service needs to improve this but totally worth staying there.Highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Especially if you have a short stay this hotel is in the best location. higher rooms have less noise...

The main idea for staying here is, its great view of awesome bell tower. Which at night had beautifull light. I dont know about the price, since my friend had been choosing it for me. The room quite nice, with sofa. But the bed rather small, with my height (1,7m) my feet already at the end of bed. And luckily im alone, if you use the bed for two person, i think it not too spacious. If you only spend one night it great choice, but if more than two days, i suggest find other hotel.

this large, once grand hotel occupies a fantastic location opposite the Bell Tower. We found our room reasonable but in need of some modernisation and refurbishment. Carpets need replacing and the bathrooms are very dated. The beds are very hard which won't suit all tastes. Breakfast was reasonable if you got there early enough. The staff on reception were friendly and courteous.

We stayed there two nights and didnt get any sleep. The beds are so tough that in the morning you feel pain in your back. The walls and doors are paper thin.We could hear people talking 2 rooms away from us, we could even hear people turning on the lights from the next room.Knocking at the door at the next room, sounded as our door.Very old rooms, need renovation.
The breakfast is average but satisfying. The location is good if you want to go shopping only.
I wouldn't ever stay in this hotel again.

This hotel features in the Lonely Planet guide to China.
From reading other reviews, it seems most people use this hotel for short stays in Xi'an to visit the main tourist attractions. This hotel serves this purpose well.
The Airport Express Bus is the best way to reach this hotel for anyone flying into Xi'an as the drop off point is a short walk from the hotel.
Hotel located in a great central location inside the walled city.
The room was nicely decorated with plenty of storage for longer stays if necessary, spacious, comfortable and clean. The minibar was stocked with water (one type which is charged and one type complimentary) and carbonated drinks. The room has great views overlooking the Bell Tower and beyond.
Some staff speak moderate-good levels of English.
The restaurant is buffet style and caters for Chinese/Asian tastes with a 70/30 Asian/International divide on dishes on offer. After eating Chinese school canteen food for six months, I was ready for some international/western dishes but it was a bit disappointed.
Onward travel by train from the North train station is very easy from this hotel. A metro station is linked to the underpass that circles the Bell Tower. Take the metro line 2 to the terminus/Xian North Railway Station stop and you exit below the railway station and rise up to main passenger holding area via escalators.
Enjoyed my stay at the Bell Tower Hotel and would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Xi'an.
