The dinner/show is a good way to spend an evening in Xian. The food selection was good and the performance was average.

“280 Yuan I'll never see again!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2011

I went on my own to China but travelled in a tour group. This was offered as an optional excursion on the tour. I know what your thinking if you didn't like it then why did you go? Well firstly the whole group wanted to go so didn't fancy spending the evening on my own in a strange city. Also the dumpling banquet sounded interesting and obviously didn't know what to expect. Firstly to describe the dinner banquet...DUMPLINGS It's literally all you get. It is quite interesting and was fine for a one off as we were offered 19 different kinds including dumpling dessert. They're actually well cooked and very flavorsome but just wouldn't eat them again. The show after though was quite disappointing. I will say If you like musical arts/culture then it's right up your street but really isn't my cup of tea at all and found it quite boring. There's about 10 acts and they all have different backdrops and music. I just put it down to an experience. I wanted to get drunk but found that limited as the bar prices are quite expensive (even the local stuff). You do get table service which is a nice touch. We paid about 280 yuan each for the night as a guide price so whoever you travel with expect to pay around that figure. Apart from holding a panda, in a completely different city this is one of the most expensive optional activities you'll pay in China.

“Wonderful view of local and historical music and dance.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2011

We only saw the show and didn't eat dinner. The show was excellent and the talent superb. Great coreography, excellent singers and dancers, great orchestra. Featured both ancient, traditional and modern musical instruments. A nice respite and change of pace in a hectic schedule.
