“Snob waitress”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2014

Generally, I like this place ie city centre, next to drum tower and bell tower etc. That was the reason why we moved from our previous hotel to a local hotel, right smacked in the Muslim Quatter.

Everything was good and the only unpleasant thing that we experienced was the rude and snob waitresses at the 回坊印像飯庄。 First they ignore us and kept chit chatting among themselves and when we tried to get their attention, they just sneered and looked at us blankly. We were so angry that we left after complaining to the cashier.

We went to another restaurant towards the end of the road and the service was heavenly, comparing with the first restaurant. They even have the cheapest prune juice in the area.

Despite the unpleasant encounter, we will return to the Muslim quatter.

“Great food and great little markets”

We enjoyed the street immensely. We tried a lot of the food from the stalls and returned to see more. A must for a trip to Xi'an!

“Wonderful experience of diverse Chinese cultures”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2014

This is a long street fill with handicraft shops and food stalls. It is quite easy to find by just walking right behind the Drum Tower. As you walk in, there will be so much to take in, street vendors shouting their wares, electric bikes zooming in and out (watch out), smells of food with various spices. Part of the experience was to watch how the food are being make right in front of your eyes; spicy baby potatoes, hammered candy, pulled candy, barbeque meat, pan fried squids etc. The affect of the Silk Road from the ancient days can still be seen with the different types of spices and food that are sold here which are quite different from other parts of China. Some of the sellers have roots tracing back to central Asia and even as far as Turkey, and it shows in the type of food being sold here. The handicraft sold are also quite reasonably price with price tag on them. Of course bargaining is still possible with more purchases. My colleague remark that this place is much better than Beijing for example because the sellers here do not hassle you to buy their things. They are OK with you taking a look and walking away. Definitely a must visit if you are in this city.
