“Enjoyable Evening”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

I really don't get the previous reviews. Is it geared to foreign tourists? Yes, of course. The big foreign tour groups are the primary patrons but on the night we attended there were also a lot of Chinese present. Though I agree the service is rushed, everyone at our table enjoyed the meal. What I really don't understand are the comments about the show itself. Is it authentic to the era of the Tang Dynasty? I don't know and, I would submit, neither do those who provided negative reviews. Comparing it to a Vegas show -- really? You didn't pay anywhere close to a Vegas price for this show. Too "touristy?" What did you expect? Would you have said the same thing about a Western melodrama in Colorado, a Cajun cultural performance in Louisiana, or a Renaissance show in Europe? News flash - shows geared to tourists are generally "touristy." That doesn't mean that they can't be fun and entertaining. So, if you want to have an enjoyable evening, don't stew about whether the Tang Dynasty show is "authentic" Instead just relax and enjoy the dancing, the costumes, and the music.

“Worst dumplings ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2014

We had the dumpling dinner / performance package for RMB 400:
1. We had to eat the dumplings in a separate room as we didn't book the dinner / performance package for 500. Nobody told us in advance...
2. The service was very bad, even for Chinese standards.
3. Although the chef is one of the most famous in Xi'an (according to the brochure), we had the worst dumplings ever. You couldn't tell which flavor is fish, beef, pork, etc. and on top of that, the dumplings had almost no fillings, ie only dough.
In summary, way too much overrated, too expansive, and definitely a tourist trap!

“Average Vegas”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2014

The music was decent in a low-budget Chinese movie kind of way. The show was up and down. Had some good performers and some quite average. The food was terrible! plates of so-so Chinese food rushed to your table so the show can get started. I did like the unlimited Chinese sake served warm during the meal. Not worth the money.

“Over-priced tourist trap. ”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2014

The show is nothing special. Very westernized, tacky and over-the-top costumes and soundtrack. Really don't see how this relates to chinese history.

The meal itself is of a very poor quality, much better restaurant food can be found in xian for a fraction of the price. Besides which, I would much rather have a small quantity of good quality food elsewhere, than the piles and piles of poor quality food offered here.

The consensus? Save your money and go out to a real chinese restaurant for a proper chinese meal.

“Fun- a Xian must see!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013

I had heard this was touristy so we were not going to go to the show but our Xi'an born as raised your guide told us it was worth it to learn more about the Tang Dynasty. I am glad we did! It was beautiful and entertaining. The food was also pretty good for being served in a theater. The quantity of food is crazy- no way we could even eat half of it. Lots of different dumplings that were fun to try. Great show!
