“Perhaps Best Suited for Warriors (Literally)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2012

Perhaps the timing was wrong when I stayed in the Warriors Apartment last December. The experience was not entirely pleasant.

The entire apartment was beautifully decorated and furnished with Qin Dynasty's relics and related stuff. There's more than enough space for big family to comfortably settle in. Location is good in the sense that it is close to the Muslim Quarters and the Drum and Bell Towers.

The main concern was the extremely-cold apartment. To make matters worse, Clarence told us that there would be a power cut from midnight till 6 in the morning. Imagine having no heater or lighting in a big apartment filled with clay statues in the dead of winter in Xi'an!. The ceramic flooring must have added to the cold. We did not have a good sleep at all, if any.

I thought at least the owner could have at least have the courtesy to let us know earlier about the situation, instead of telling us only after we have settled in. When asked for a discount, he outrightly rejected, saying that the price has been fixed. Needless to say, we moved out of it at first light the next day.

We thought this B&B was exceptional value. Clarence and his wife thought of everything. The apartment included beer, great fruit and breakfast ingredients (self cook). It was very spacious, and everything that I could have wished for was there. It is worth commenting on the service. Clarence arranged a number of things for us before we arrived, and he kept us extremely well informed throughout the process. The service (provided by him, his wife, and a couple of tour guides) worked exactly as he said it would. The service exceeded our expectations. It was extremely thoughtful and highly competent.

The Warriors Apartments is very centrally located to sites of Xi'an, including wall, drum & bell towers, Great Mosque, Muslim market area, shopping, and restaurants. I didn't need taxi in Xi'an. Apartments came up under Bed and Breakfast options but my experience is that it does not qualify. All that was provided in my stay was a few eggs and a couple small snack-size cartons of milk that may have been left from previous guests. No oil/butter or seasonings to cook with, no bread or fruits/vegs.

Clarence's tour to Terra Cotta Warriors was well worth the investment. He is a gracious and knowledgeable host. Lunch was delicious. Van was very comfortable. I paid premium price because I was the only guest that weekend, but I was very glad that I did it. Recommend it.

The accommodations are dusty but the bed linens and bath are clean. Expect city noise if you are not used to it. Location made up for all of this in my opinion. One of my favorite China experiences was sunset and evening walk atop the wall ... nice photos. I would stay again.

We stayed at the Warriors apartments in the Hong City Apartment complex for three nights recently. Since our stay coincided with the Christmas week, the many warriors that adorn the apartments were decked out in Santa gear which was a bit spooky and bizarre to say the least. The apartments are well kitted out with a whole host of amenities like a washing machine(Tide detergent supplied as well), a kettle, an ironing board, a refrigerator, tea and coffee and mineral water as well as free Wifi (essential for the modern day traveler) and even slippers in a variety of sizes. Clarence, the congenial owner also supplied us with a free mobile phone to use in Xian. However all of us agreed that the apartments were a bit too cultured and over embellished with the warrior figurines which seem to generate/ accumulate a lot of dust.

Only negative I have of this place is it's a little tricky to find, but doesn't matter as owner will direct you there if you call, and his daughter came out to find us!
Kitsch factor is high... Warriors everywhere!
It was a real blessing to have a washing machine after 2 weeks of travel, and many more to go.
Would definitely recommend.

We stayed 2 nights at the Warriors apartments in November. We have stayed only in international hotels (Holiday Inn, Sheraton), but decided to try this one since we had another family with two children. Clarence was very prompt in his correspondence and offered us a discount on a package incl. 2 apts and airport transfer (both ways). The total amount was slightly more than the what it would have cost us for 3 studios in Citadines + airport transfer by the airport shuttle. But since we had an important early morning flight to catch, we didn't want to risk taking the shuttle. So we decided to go for the apartments.

Clarence met us promptly at the airport and drove us to the apartments. On the way, he helped us buy some necessities, assisted with the baggage and showed us around the apartments. The apartments are situated in a residential block on the 2nd floor and located close to the Bell Tower. It is furnished with a queen size bed, TV, sofa chair, coffee table, small dining table and an electric kettle. The kitchen has a frig, oven, toaster, gas burner and some utensils. We did not use the kitchen since it had the appearance and feel of someone's kitchen. In fact, the whole apartment gave the appearance of being in someone's else's house - a kind of used feel. I suppose that can't be helped, but still we couldn't get that feeling out of us. The bathroom had a smell and we had to use the air freshener whenever using it. The weather was already cold and the rooms are heated by hot-water plumbing - a rather homely contraption but not entirely effective. We were two adults and a kid in one apartment, but there was no third pillow. The bed and bath linen were clean enough, but probably not like what you would expect in a good hotel. The apartments are full of the warrior statues of various sizes and it probably lends to the ambience. The over-all finish of the apartments is somewhat rough - but I suppose it was meant to be that way. Clarence himself is a helpful guy, friendly though not effervescent.

Over-all, we would have preferred to have stayed in a Holiday Inn or similar, though I wouldn't say the experience was disagreeable. Actually, I would give a score of 3.5 out of 5, but TA doesn't allow half-scores. For those with a family and an extended stay (3-4 days), the apartments may be an attractive proposition, especially if you can get some discount on the rack rates.

Room Tip: For those interested in a guide to the Warriors site, Clarence can be very informative. Even otherwi...

HEllo,my Indian friends:
Do you ( or all Indian couple) can get 3 pillows when you book onebed room in international hotel ?I'll give you one pillow for sure if you tell me inadvance
HEre is the email you sent to me:
Clarence;
We can easily manage in one Apartment. So paying for an extra apartment just for an additional bathroom does not seem attractive.
Pls keep in mind that paying for an additional apartment just for a bathroom is taking away whatever advantage we have in booking an apartment style accomodation.
Before I look at other options, can you let me know what is the best that you can offer for an additional 1 B/R apartment? We are looking at something around CNY 2,000 as a complete package.
2 B/R Apartment (2nights) +1 B/R Apartment (2nights) - lodging only
Airport pickup (Night 9pm) + Airport drop (Morning 5.30am)
TOTAL: CNY 2,000
You can take away the water, beer, fruits and simple breakfast.
Thanks ..
Raghavan
