“A nice clean place to stay in Xian”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

Great backpacker! Clean rooms and toilets and friendly staff.

3-5 minutes with bus to trainstation/citycenter.

And a very good internet-connection in the rooms for being China.

Only minus I have to say about this hostel is the lockers in the room. Very bad quality made of wood. Could easily opend a locked one with my bare hands. Hopefully you will fix this in the future.

Good Hostel!

Lovely place, traditional house with a local feel to it. Has a bar and restaurant (food is ok, decently priced). Staff is friendly and helpful (pleasantly surprised by their level of English).
Stayed in a private room with ensuite bathroom. The rooms were clean and spacious enough.
Location is good if you're going to cycle around the wall (recommendable), although a bit far (better to take a cab) from the center (drum tower).

Fairly cheap for private double but there is no wifi in the rooms, only fairly unreliable wifi in the overpriced and not very good restaurant.

The rooms were great though. English movie channel and very nice bathroom, although glass to the bathroom so only go the double with someone you are cosy with.

This hostel is well located very near the South gate to the city. It is a very large hostel in an interesting old building with helpful staff. There is also an attached restaurant/bar which is slightly separated from the hostel itself. We stayed in a 4 bed dorm which was clean and a decent size, and the lockers were big enough to hold our large bags, which was good. The shared bathroom facilities could be improved as they did not feel very clean most of the time, particularly the shower room. Reasonable for travellers on a budget.

We decided to do a self tour of china last November starting in Beijing and then moving on to Xian. We had stayed in a Jingaling hotel which was good on the budget but was difficult on the communication. On arrival at Xian train station we were met by a couple waving an add for there hostel. Being 50 plus we had always assumed hostels were dorm type like when we were hippies in the 70s so we took a punt. We got a nice big room with a big shower area and a bed that could accommodate a stack of people even if the mattress was a bit thin. The atmosphere was great, the hostel had its own bar and restaurant with good food and coffee. The staff all spoke good English and they organized our tour to see the terracotta warriors. It is situated in a good spot with the main street to the right which head s towards the bell and drum towers. The Muslim quarter is nearby which has a great assortment of food and atmosphere. To the left of the hostel and around the corner is a whole bunch of drinking establishments which you will find hard pressed to find in other parts of china. We learnt that hostels are well priced, you meet more people and in contries where language can be a problem they make it a little bit easier. We stayed in a few other hostels after this on our 1 month trip but this one was the best for us.

Stayed for 2 nights in a twin room (double rooms were not available). The room was ok, working AC, clean (bathroom smells a bit in the beginning but after a shower it goes away). The place is nicely decorated in old Chinese style. Location is great, 10 min walk from the Bell Tower and Muslim Quarter. Staff is friendly and helpful. Organised tours are overpriced, especially since it's very easy to go to the terracotta worriers and the tombs by yourself. Common area is not that exciting, and they want you to pay on the spot for anything you order at the bar/restaurant, so if you order 5 beers in a row you have to pay each time for each of them.

Room Tip: Do not get the rooms in the basement as they have no windows, the hallway looks quite depressing and...

The hostel was overall very clean and well kept. The staff was friendly and it was easy to book tour packages to mount hua, terracotta warriors and other various attractions my family didn't have time for.

But I feel that the commons areas could be improved upon; my family stayed on the third floor, and there is this nice area with wooden chairs around the atrium. Even in the day, the area is quite dim, which otherwise would be a nice place for travellers to sit at. Oh yes, also there is no wifi connection anywhere near the rooms and that was a huge minus

Room Tip: Upstairs with windows ;)
