“Old hotel that could use a renovation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2014 via mobile

It looks, feels and smells like the best days of this hotel are way behind it. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't stink, but over the years it gets that specific smell especially since it is mostly smoking hotel. All rooms are "standard" which means that you have to upgrade your room if you'd like double bed instead of twin, or a river side view. Riverside could be a nice upgrade since the hotel is very close to famous Elephant trunk hill.
Even so, rooms are clean and there is enough room for all your stuff. Bathrooms haven`t been renovated in some time.
Wifi is free open access but with terrible connection speed.
Staff are struggling with english but you'll get used to it in China.

Hotel advertises to offer pickup drop off at the airport, but when we arrived there was nobody from hotel waiting for us. Later we found out that it is service payed extra.
Overall, we were satisfied and would recommend it as a sleepover place.

Ask for the river view anything else and you are looking into someone else's room, but the river view rooms are very nosy with the traffic it seems 24 hours a day. The rooms are ok big and roomy and clean, the beds are ok nothing to write home about, tired enough you'll sleep. The wifi is ridiculous as you can't get it in the rooms and it's free in the lobby when it does not cut out. It is like a wind sock when it's flying well the wifi is fantastic no wind and it sucks big time. Breakfast is good but it also depends what day and who serves you we had a fantastic experience on Our last day everything hot with a very attentive waitress other days the coffee was colder than the juice but great view to eat with. Yes we would stay here again but with low expectations.

This hotel is located on the banks of the Li River. It seems to have two basic views ... either your room has a view of the River, which is fascinating - the traffic going by is a constant source of interest. There's the "other" side also, which looks at neighbouring buildings - so ask for a river view if you have a choice. Like most hotels in China the beds are on the hard side. The plumbing is not great, so take care what you put down the toilet - even too much toilet tissue can be too much for the system. Its clean, secure and relatively quiet though. All the rooms have tea/coffee making facilities, a fridge with simple minibar and a afe.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a river view otherwise you'll be looking at other buildings (into neighbours...

This hotel is located on the banks of the Li River and within a few steps of a shopping area with lots of intriguing merchandise and restaurants. Views from the rooms facing the river are very nice. The rooms themselves are spacious and well appointed although the non-flat TV set was a bit of a throwback. The beds were comfortable but firm and, even though our room faced the main drag, was quiet. Breakfast was, typically, buffet style with choice of Western and Chinese dishes. The staff at the registration desk was pleasant and, if one of the receptionists did not speak English, another staff member jumped up to help. Actually, with the exception of a very spotty wifi signal in the hotel lobby that seemed to disappear when walking two steps away from the "sweet spot" there's not much negative that I could mention. I would stay there again

Room Tip: Get a room that faces the Li River for good views of the river and the karst mountains on the other...

Positives
* Pleasant location - set right beside the beautiful Lijiang River, right in the business centre of Guilin.
* Room clean and comfortable but very basic.
* Free Wifi in reception area only.
* Standard breakfast with average selection.

Negatives
* Extremely firm bed.
* Carpet appeared very dirty, rooms could use a bit of refurbishment.
* Deposit box had to be requested.

Okay for a very short stay. Recommend you put extra quilting on the bed if you want a good nights sleep.

Good things first:
- room is large and clean,
- free wifi in the lobby,
- breakfast is fine,
- very central location in Guilin so it is convenient to walk around.

Then comes the improvement points:
- staff absolutely not friendly not to say unpleasant and impolite despite we are client of the hotel
- room was supposed to have a river view but we ended with one on the other side with a lovely view on very old buildings and other rooms of the hotel,
- beds are hard like you are actually sleeping on the floor
- you hear everything from your neighbors up, down and next to you
- bathroom flooded when shaving because the sink was clogged up

Overall: fine for the location but would not recommend otherwise.

Location is good and central.
WiFi in the lobby.
Bed is very hard even by chinese standard.
Shower hole was blocked up in our room so we ended up with water way above the ankles at each shower.
Carpet in our room was really dirty.
Staff was unpleasant and impolite.
