“Great location by the lake.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2014

We were in the yet to be renovated part of the hotel and our room was a little 'tired', but with a lovely view of the lake. As seems usual we had insufficient drawer and shelf space (don't hotelliers think about long distance travellers needing to unpack sometimes?) but, otherwise, our room was comfortable. It's a pleasant 15 minute stroll through the park by the lake to the centre of Guilin with it's many shops and stalls, plus the inevitable McD and KFC!. Breakfast was fine even with the slowest omelette maker in the world! We didn't use the pool as it is outdoor and, we were told, not heated. Small shops and restaurants near by making this a great location.

Room Tip: A renovated one overlooking the lake would be good.

This is a typical international style hotel that could be anywhere in the world: it used to be a Holiday Inn. It is located next to a pretty, city centre artificial lake, around 40 minutes drive from the airport. Reception staff were friendly and spoke good English.

We got an upgrade to the “Grand” wing. The bed was comfortable and the room, at the back of the hotel, was quiet. But the view from the window was over scruffy apartments and yards. And the bathroom was not as clean as the other hotels we stayed in China.

There were two restaurants for breakfast: Western and Chinese; we were not allowed into the Chinese. So we ate in the Western restaurant that was full of large European and American tour groups, some of whom had questionable habits in handling food on a buffet that others would subsequently eat. But the range and quality of the Western breakfast buffet was OK.

We didn’t have dinner in the hotel, preferring to go to a small local Chinese restaurant a few minutes walk away that was recommended by our guide.

We only stayed in the hotel overnight. It was convenient, but one night was enough.

We stayed as part of a tour and the hotel was extremely comfortable, large western style room beautifully appointed with many amenities and extremely comfortable beds. The breakfast buffet is first rate with a wide variety of both Chinese and western dishes. The dinner was equally well done the hotel is bright and cheery with a nice lobby and excellent WiFi

Stayed in the new section of this hotel recently and was very impressed. Not sure when this part was opened but the rooms were spacious, bright and well appointed. Spotlessly clean, quiet and comfortable. The reception, restaurant and coffee shop were bright, clean and looked new. Hotel looks a bit stark from the outside but it is worth looking past this. Good breakfasts however service in the restaurant for dinner/supper hit or miss but generally miss with orders not correct and taking ages to arrive despite there being very few people eating so would suggest going elsewhere for dinner. When the food did arrive not particularly worth the wait.

Let me start by saying that I stayed in the newer "grand" section of the hotel, as I have heard the older parts are not as nice.
The rooms are spacious, the is free wifi in the rooms, the breakfast has a good selection, hotel is cleanly, and our laundry came back timely and was done without mistakes.
It was refreshing to see blackout curtains here as the last two hotels did not have them.
The location is great, there is a lake nearby with lots of shopping and street food.
I highly recommend is hotel!

We stayed here three nights while staying in Guilin. Beds were comfortable and we were happy to be able to plug in our US chargers, curling iron and computer. Beware, the Chinese smoke in the buildings do ask for a non smoking room! This is a tired hotel, that needs some updating!
