“Beautiful, serene hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2014

We absolutely loved our stay in this hotel!

I had read that they offer a free airport pick up service, so emailed them our itinerary and they replied within minutes. The driver was on time, friendly and spoke very good English. He gave us the best recommendations on our itinerary while in Guilin. As soon as we checked in, we booked the Longji rice terrace field tour for the next day (450 RMB per person).

The hotel itself is located in the botanical gardens and you will often see people walking in and out. In the morning, there will be people walking around, doing tai chi, dancing, playing ma jong-wonderful just to watch them. The gardens themselves are quite extensive and you can spend a lot of time walking around!

FYI, you may want to bring some mosquito repellent, the combination of rain and the gardens just lured them all in.

Our room was spacious (double bed), with of course all the basics- TV (not that we watched any), minibar, fridge, safe, bathtub, shower, Japanese style toilet (!) and lovely view of the gardens.

The breakfast buffet was much better than expected. Having travelled quite a bit in China, you mostly get some baozi (steamed bun) and doujiang (soy milk), but this had some half decent coffee and western bread. Having said that, if you do sign up for any tours, you will more than likely be rushing through breakfast (unless of course you're an early riser).

We had been given a coupon for some tea in the tea house. We ordered the famous tea of Guilin, Osmanthus which was just divine, all while listening to a guzheng (Chinese harp) being played- my mum was so excited she decided to skype my dad while all this was going on. Needless to say, he was completely green with envy.

Granted, the location could be better, but there is not that much to do in the centre of Guilin, except seeing the pagodas. You will see the river when you go for the river cruise. Otherwise, you can easily walk to the centre- it took us only 20 minutes.

Definitely worth it if you want a relaxing stay in the city!

Situated in a botanical garden it makes for a nice setting for any hotel. While Guilin is nothing to write about this hotel made it for us. We got in late and ordered room service and the food was great! The room was big, clean and more than I could have expected. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast offered a huge variety. We did have dinner in the restaurant and it was pretty good too. We enjoyed an afternoon tea in the traditional teahouse. If you are looking for a place to just chill out than this is a great hotel. Also if you are exploring the surrounding area (rice terraces, etc.) this is a nice place to come back to.

So its always hard for me to figure out how to score hotels in rustic towns, which is how I would describe Guilin. Do you score them based on their peers in the area, or by worldclass standards ? So I scored based on my stays in 2nd and 3rd tier Chinese towns.

The place really is a little far out of the main down town area. I didn't mind too much because a) the taxis are cheap b) my wife is Chinese so getting around the zero English part is just fine and c) I really did like the quiet setting in the gardens. They have a golf cart shuttle service from the garden gate to hotel and it runs 24 hrs and you never wait.

The room was quiet nice, pretty clean, and bed was not too hard ( always a bonus in a Chinese hotel). I thought breakfast was a bit plain and boring, with the normal shockingly bad coffee you learn to expect in Chinese hotels. Service was efficient but perhaps not the warmest I have ever seen.

Sent in a suit for dry cleaning which came back stuffed in a bag and with more creases than a shar pei dog. To their credit when I went to the front desk and complained they not only dropped off the charge from the bill, but also gave us a free ride to the airport when we left after three days.

We had three days of rain/damp weather while there and I think the hotel would have been a wonderful sight in sunlight... for us grey and damp, but cant blame hotel for that :-)

We took a couple of the tours advertised at the front desk.

Unless you you really want to go to Yangsuo, I would opt for the English speaking trip down the Li River at the higher price. We did the Chinese only version and it was too full on. The river is one constant stream of boats each with the own loudspeaker system inside and out competing with other. If you don't speak Chinese you will be totally lost especially when you hit the rugby scrum getting on the boat, and off again at Yangsuo.

I realize many Chinese now want to see their country but unless they limit some of the tourist numbers in these pristine areas its just a recipe for over commercialization...

This was a truly delightful hotel in the most spectacular grounds and set in a park! The room was great (particular the space age toilet!), the breakfast was superb and being able to feed the fish after breakfast was a delight for our daughter. The tea house, set in the hotel, was lovely if a little pricey, and the pool was much used despite being a bit cold! The staff could not have been more helpful and we loved using the electric buggy to get to the park entrance when our legs were tired! We found Western food at the local shopping complex just outside the park so all in all a great place for a family.

Situated inside the Botanical Gardens, this hotel is a tranquil escape from the busy city of Guilin. The hotel grounds are charming, immaculate and beautifully decorated with fish ponds, streams, bridges and a small outdoor swimming pool. Children can enjoy feeding the fish. The hotel rooms are in several buildings and open directly onto the hotel grounds. The rooms are also beautifully decorated and clean. Our room had a small yard with a seat and a stream running through it connecting to the fish pond. The sounds of birds an crickets pleasantly lull you into a deep sleep. The staff were professional, helpful, friendly and spoke good English. The food was interesting and varied but was a bit short on vegetarian options. I recommend spending some time in the morning going around the botanical gardens to see the locals exercising, playing music and socializing. The main attraction is the nice garden and grounds away from the busy city.

Room Tip: The superior rooms have a yard whereas the Deluxe rooms have a balcony.

We stayed for a couple of nights only - found the garden location, and the views from our balcony really special - a very quiet spot to relax after a busy sightseeing day.

We got a great tip from another reviewer before we went - use the no. 10 bus to go into town and back - its only 1 yuan, and there is no change, so have some small notes handy. It leaves from near the front of the hotel.

Also - ask for a balcony room with a view.

Also - they can book trips for you (eg on the Li River) - so ask when you book in

Room Tip: See tips above One problem was the lack of a safe

Glad we picked the Guilin Royal Palace for our stay in Guilin. The property has wonderful surroundings and is situated in a park. Rooms have western standard and are of good size. The restaurant closes at 9 pm and there is no cozy bar for a drink. We also would have loved a spa, to unwind after a long day of sight seeing. The staff is trying very hard to please. They set us up with a wonderful guide, Jerry, who was well spoken, dynamic and very informative. He helped us make the best of 2 very rainy days and has the most pleasant personality.
