Fabulous hotel, fantastic roomswith amazing facilities. Beautiful gardens and water feature and also an outdoor pool. You can walk through the gardens at the rear to the Li River and see water buffaloes grazing. The buffet-style dinner was excellent with a lot of variety. Breakfast was excellent with a wide selection of food.Staff were very attentive and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble for them. This is a late review as we stayed there in August 2012, but I would definitely return to this hotel in a flash! Couldn't fault it.

Completed some 3 years ago, this is by far the best 5-star hotel of international standing in Guilin with its design layout, service, comfort and catering all bearing the characteristic elegance and sophistication of Shangri-la.

The gustrooms are well appointed and, most imprtantly, beds are comfortable. Had a very decent dinner at the Shang Palace which served us fine local specialities as well as very respectable Cantonese dishes. Full credit goes to the Catering Manager, Lisa Lin, who was most courteous, helpful and accommodating from our ordering of the menu from Hong Kong to service during and after dinner.

The hotel is a little way out of the city centre, but given that most of the attractions are away from rather than inside the centre of Gulin, this does not stand in the way of touring round the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to the lifts to avoid walking down the long corridors.

Another pre-booked hotel as part of our China tour. Room and facilities definitely up to what we had come to expect from Shangri-La. Couple of slight problems - we had to find and serve our own coffee on morning at breakfast, there were no waiting staff to be seen. The hotel is a bit out of the way and you need a taxi to get into town. Buffet dinner is good with a reasonable amount of choice. Buffet breakfast is good.

Two nights and we could not enjoy the first and only outdoor pool of our China tour: this is a real shame. One evening it was closed for disinfection (can't they do that at night?) and the following day for rain (you can enjoy a swim when it rains, you know?).

In the room the air-con setting did not work properly, so we had to set it at 27C to have 22C.

Breakfast is brilliant, do not miss it!

Concierge attendants do not speak English.

Very helpful staff; lovely hotel - very luxurious and fab outdoor pool facilities.
Yes it is a way out of Guilin but then Guilin itslef is not an attractive city. The majority of people are in Guilin for the Karst scenery and so there is little advantage in being in the city centre. All the boats leave from a point further down the river.
Spacious rooms with good facilities.
We ate in the hotel - from the buffet the first night and from the a la carte menu the second night. We thought the buffet choice was very impressive with a good mix of western and eastern dishes.
It is probably best to eat later to have a more relaxed atmosphere in the buffet.
The hotel is large but not as large as some of the reviews might lead you to believe.

We stayed one night, getting in very late due to flight delay then leaving early next morning for Li River cruise to Yangshao. Modern hotel and very large as per other reviewers almost a feeling of caveranous.

Breakfast was good. Staff was helpful and provided additional bottles of water when requested.
