“Amazing staff, cosy inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

Loved our 2 night stay in this small inn. The bar area was cosy and friendly, the bedroom equipped with everything we needed and a decent shower but the thing that really made this place stand out was the fantastic staff - they were exceptionally helpful, keen to practice their English and just utterly charming! Fab value for money too, cannot fault it. Even the guests were great and we had a very sociable evening in the bar area with fellow guests, staff and a couple of other travellers who popped in for a drink in the bar.

We enjoyed three nights in this charming little Inn. Our cosy room, one of three above the restaurant/bar, was clean and modern with wood floors and a small sitting area. Wifi reception was good and there is a computer for use in lobby. It is staffed by university students who are friendly, speak good English and are anxious to please. Tour booking is a cinch and they seem to offer significantly lower prices than online booking sites.
The location is unbeatable. A short walk to pedestrian shops and restaurants. Across the road is the lake with the twin pagodas which is beautiful, especially lit up at night.
There is music from nearby buskers at night but the activity ends at a decent time and did not interfere with our sleep. Magical flute melodies accompany tai chi practice the mornings were lovely to awaken to. All in all, great value for this little treasure in Guilin !

This small inn is really good value for money. The location is beautiul near the lake and the rooms comfortable and clean. The staff are extremely friendly and helpfull and the food was ok. The staff speak some english and can book tours for you. We booked the Li River Cruise and after one phone call from the staff we were given a discount on the tour as we were only traveling one way.

We arranged a pick up from the train station & delayed it twice on the day which was no problem for them. The place is super cheap for the location near the lake & shopping streets. The room was neat and suited to us. This place aint luxury but for the price, you cant fault it.

The staff were very friendly and arranged a pick up for us from the airport. The hostel was in a good location and the room was nice and comfortable. Although the bathroom felt a little shabby, this was a room that I hadn't paid much for, and it did the job.

It's a very small hotel, with only three rooms. When we arrived there, they don't have a room for us, but they invited us for a coffee and went with us to another hotel, The Waterfall Hotel, a bigger one where we had a nice stay. To two very tired people the girls were a oasis.

From booking the room all the way to the cab driving off the experience was perfect.
We work in hospitality and were geniunely impressed with the Lakeside. I find it very very hard to write top reviews but....

I had arranged with Lakeside that they would arrange an airport pickup, this was there on our arrival and we were brought to the Inn direct, at normal taxi fare.
Harry and Catherine were all smiles and happy to check us in, (spoke perfect english, as did nearly all who worked here) and arrange our river cruise for the next day. Note, the price at the Inn is a good one, after price comparrisons with other cruisers, we were riding on the lowest tariff so do it! The room was perfectly clean and a super fuss was made for us, to make sure everything was what we needed. A not so hard mattress, on a raised platform, air conditioning, open shower in bathroom, and some super Chineese decor. On top a mountain of Chineese TV channels. In the morning the Tai Chi folks all line up outside on the street with their music, but its ok, there was 2 double glazed windows separating us from them. We had a great sleep. The bar downstairs was cosy, and we hung out in the evenings here. We had breakfast and lunch here, and the food was basic but filling. Beer is cheap, and the smiles from the whole staff is free. Out the door and turn left, you will find a big popular Chinese restaurant, we ventured in one evening and ended up having the best meal of our vacation here. 13euro for about 8 dishes. The Inn, is across a pedestrien street to the Lake, and is 2 minute walk to the Waterfall hotel etc, so its smack bang in the centre. The morning we left, all the guys came to say goodbye and waved us off in the cab. Now tell me, who does that in hotels?

In summary, cozy, family style, clean, affordable, if you go to Guilin, you would be a fool not to stay here.

Well done all at the Inn!!!!
