“Well preserved in amongst old Guangzhou”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

Terrific cathedral built in the 1860s. I just loved looking at it contrasted against the newer (and uglier) apartment buildings of Guangzhou. Plenty of history here. It's tucked off Yide Lu (not actually on it, so keep looking to your right as you head West along Yide Lu to see the spires.

“One of the few catholic churches in GZ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

This is one of the few catholic churches in guangzhou. I dont really think its open for tourists to visit but, every sunday they do hold rosary followed by a mass.
Get there about 2:00pm because this place does fill up and you dont want to be a back bencher.
To get to the church you can take the metro/undergroud line 2 and get off at the station named Haizhu square.
You can head out the exit B2 and keep walking staright ahead for about 10mins and ask for Yi De Lu.
You will not only find the cathedral you will also find lil stores that sell import food for low prices. Cheese, butter, milk etc...

“A beautiful church to rest your soul”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

This is one of the few western churches in Guangzhou. Nothing much to those who are used to the grandeur of churches in the West, but considering they are rare in this part of the world, it may be worth a visit just to see it standing in a completely different environment.

“Gothic Cathedral”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

It was a surprise to find a Catholic church in Guangzhou which dates back to 1888. Its Gothic architecture is reminiscent of many churches found in Europe. It is one of the few churches in the world to be entirely built of granite including all the walls, pillars & the twin towers. It is called he stone house by local people or Shishi in Mandarin & Seksat in Cantonese. We were fortunate to attend an English Sunday mass while we were there. However, church staff are monitoring the churchgoers who are not attentive during service or otherwise sleeping & their attention were called.
