“Great room with great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

It is a brand new serviced residence by Fraser along Tian He Road. Great product with superb location and all staff are friendly and helpful. This property is directly connected to One Link Walk shopping mall and under path way leads you to other side of Tian He Road where Tai Koo Hui shopping mall located. You are able to enjoy your shopping and dining regardless of rain or shine.
Lots of attractive facilities in the property like outdoor pool, kids' play room, gym, golf simulator room and nice massage chair for you to relax ..... my first choice of accommodation in Guangzhou.

It was my first time to Guangzhou and didn't get to see much of it as work held me back within the Hotel. No complaints though. The friendly and prompt service from the staff more then made up for it. The room was spacious and well appointed. Good location with a modern shopping mall adjacent, convenient for eateries. Overall I would give it BIG THUMBS up.

We just finish our gourp cofference in last week, and we stay with Fraser Guangzhou. This is a great business hotel residence, the hardware is great. The front desk was enthusiastic and patience. Room design is very modern, great facilities. There kitchen equipment and washing machine, convenience for long travel guests. 4th floor breakfast room as well as a garden and swimming pool, the whole environment is very relaxed. In the busy work can find a quiet place to read a book is a good choice. Overall, highly recommend this as your business travel. But I believe the family are very suitable, because there are two bed room and three bed room apartments, more suitable for families with children.

Room Tip: Best location in CBD, very easy for go shopping...

The Fraser Suites in Guangzhou is the first hotel of all those we have stayed at over the years and around the world where we can give an almost unreserved rating of Excellent in every way. The suite was of such a high standard that we could have moved in and lived there contentedly. We would like to return to Guangzhou and on such an occasion would stay here again if Fraser's Hospitality continue the reasonable price, superb accommodation and truly outstanding service. We used the apartment only as a base to go sightseeing, and so did not use other facilities offered by the hotel such as the gym, swimming pool, steam room, sauna or golf simulator.

The lobby area was bright, crisp and modern (the reception counter had a bowl of apples if you wanted one). The adjoining lounge area had daily newspapers in Chinese and English, and two Macintosh computer terminals with Internet connection.

Staff at reception were professional, efficient and pleasant. They gave us the type of apartment we had requested. On seeing the apartment on the 16th floor facing the main street, we noticed the noise of traffic outside entering the bedroom. On looking at the window, we saw that a lower panel was single glazed and so admitted noise. This panel was exceptional as the rest of the window was double-glazed.

We saw the housekeeping supervisor, Fanny who spoke good English, in the corridor and showed her the situation. She was exceptionally pleasant, helpful, courteous and cooperative. She took us down to reception, discussed the situation with a clerk and arranged for us to see an apartment in the same position but on the 27th floor (of 33 floors). This apartment was much better as all the panes in the bedroom window were double-glazed and excluded street noises.

Fanny kindly helped us move, explained the facilities of the apartment, answered our questions, and told us how to use the combination washer-drying machine built into the kitchen cabinets (it had instructions in Chinese only). Shortly after we had moved in, she returned to give us a second keycard. Fanny was truly a credit to the Fraser Suites.

Our end-of-corridor, one-bedroom apartment with parquet floors and area rugs was immaculately clean, full of daylight and furnished in a comfortable, contemporary style with light-colored wood and other furnishings. The spacious open-plan kitchen-living area was fully appointed and included a large-screen television with an audio-video system and remote controls. The area had large, wraparound windows with a panoramic view over the city towards distant hills. The windows had both privacy and room-darkening curtains.

The large, flat-screen television provided access to about 84 channels, mainly in Chinese, but with several in English and one each in Japanese, Korean, French, German, Italian and others. Programs covered mainly general entertainment, news and sports.

The front-loading, washer-dryer had controls on the top: a dial for selecting cycles, a back-lit display and an on-off button. The dial allowed you to select a wash time-power (temperature)-rinse combination and, when it had finished, a drying cycle. The wash cycle indicated by the number 15 gave a complete 15-minute wash cycle, which we found adequate for lightly soiled clothes resulting from city sightseeing. After the wash cycle finished, one had to select one of the two drying cycles, indicated by a solid or empty circle (high and low) with rays emerging around the circumference. The time to dry a load depended on which of those you chose and how much you had in the machine. There was a delay of some minutes after a wash or dry cycle finished before the lock to the load-empty door disengaged allowing you to open it.

Our separate bedroom was fully appointed with a firm but comfortable, king-size platform bed, four full pillows, bedside table and lamps, bedside clock-iPod dock and a variable lighting system. The room also included a bureau with drawers and cabinets, flat-screen television with remote control, spacious closets with inside an ironing board, iron, slippers, two dressing gowns-bathrobes, an umbrella and an ample number of hangers (18 to be exact). A smaller, adjoining closet contained a safe and a torch-flashlight. The safe was large enough for a full-size laptop plus other smaller items. The double-glazed windows effectively excluded outside noise and, as a separate room away from the entrance, no corridor noises entered; consequently, we slept without disturbance during the entire stay.

The bedroom also included an office chair and a desk with a telephone, power outlets, table lamp and Ethernet connection. WiFi in our apartment worked with occasional delays and interruptions; alternatively, we could always use the computers in the lobby area.

The bathroom was finished in light, buff-colored stone which matched the rest of the apartment and included a full bath and shower area at the side, both separated by a glass partition from the rest of the bathroom. The shower gave you the choice of using a telephone shower head mounted on a wall hook or a rainshower head on the ceiling. The fixed plug in the washbasin worked by pressing it down to close and pressing it down again to open. The hot water service worked reliably. A hair dryer and full set of toiletries were provided, including both body wash and two types of solid soap, comb, toothbrushes and toothpaste, shower cap, etc.

The kitchen was equipped with cooking and eating utensils for two people, washing up, cleaning and laundry supplies, a microwave oven, full-size refrigerator (containing two first-arrival, welcome soft drinks, a Coca Cola and a Fanta) with a separate, lower, slide-out drawer freezer.

Housekeeping was comprehensive, efficient and reliable. Staff regularly replaced the sachets of coffee (regular and decaffeinated), teas and creamer, the daily, two free bottles of water, and laundry detergent.

The zonal air conditioning system worked very effectively and reliably; however, the instructions (as with the washing machine) were in Chinese only. By trial-and-error, we managed to operate the controls to our satisfaction.

The breakfast buffet (on the 4th floor, 6:30 to 10 a.m. weekdays, 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. weekends) and the dining area were eye-openers — about the best we have enjoyed at any hotel that we have ever stayed at. The choice of foods was extensive (both western and oriental) and the layout sumptuous with items to satisfy almost every taste. Some of the hot and cold food selection changed from day to day, and staff replenished items promptly when they ran low.

The L-shaped dining area was very spacious with floor to high-ceiling windows making the atmosphere flooded with daylight and pleasant even on a gray, rainy day. The service staff were pleasant, cooperative, attentive and efficient. You could help yourself to an array of prepared foods or have a cook prepare a fresh omelet with your choice of ingredients. As commented by an earlier reviewer, we were surprised that the area did not also serve as a regular restaurant later in the day.

If you would like a convenient, nearby Chinese meal, go down to Level B1 of the mall and follow the signs to the "Gourmet Area", which will lead you to the far end of the level. The restaurant "Uncle" has a menu with English as well as Chinese. The food, prices and service were all reasonable, which made it popular with locals as well. We found the staff very friendly, helpful and cooperative. Opposite the restaurant is a "FamilyMart" convenience store. On Level L3 of the mall is the upscale (expensive) "Whole Life Supermarket".

On the corner of Tiyu Donglu and Tianhe Lu, across the street from the OneLink Center office tower, was the multistory Grandview Mall. It had the usual variety of shops, restaurants, entertainment and the like, however, in great abundance as the building was huge and credited in the Lonely Planet guide to China as the largest in Asia. We could well believe it, its having an enormous, central eight-story atrium and two smaller ones — one on either side.

Along the street on the other side of a large building (under construction during our visit) was another giant shopping center, Tee Mall in Teem Plaza. Farther along and across the street was the Guangzhou Book Center. There were other opportunities for shopping; the Fraser Suites were well located for this pastime.

In getting to the hotel once you have left the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport baggage claim area, follow signs for the "Metro". You can buy tickets from vending machines (with the option of selecting English) or from a staffed, ticket booth when you reach the entrance/exit barriers. The ticket is actually an electronic token. Touch it on an area at the front of the barrier and the gates will open. Keep the token; to leave at your destination station, slide it into a slot in the exit barrier to open the gates.

The travel time from the airport to "Shipaiqiao" metro station was about 55 minutes, including a change at "Tiyu Xilu" to Line 3 going in the direction of "Tianhe Coach Terminal".

At Shipaiqiao station go to Exit A for "OneLink Walk" (mall), "OneLink Center" (office tower at the corner); go up the escalator from the concourse and turn left at the top: you will see at your left steps leading up to street level and in front of you a mall entrance with escalators in the distance. Go inside and take the escalator up to the next (street) level. At the top you will see in front of you a large sign for the Fraser Suites. Go through the doors to the lift-elevator lobby on your right. (Note that if the doors to the lobby are locked, ring the bell as the concierge and other staff are at the other side of the bank of lifts; this is the back of the main entrance to the hotel which is on a street parallel to the main boulevard Tianhe Lu.) At the side of the lifts press the upper rectangle behind the frosted glass to summon a lift. Go to the 7th floor where you will find the hotel reception and lobby area.

Access via the mall is between 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. If the mall is closed, go up the steps to the street in front of the mall and walk around the block to the street Chuanghui Jie (at the back of the mall) where you will find the main ground-floor entrance and the concierge. The main entrance faces a multi-level carpark across the street and a bus terminus.

Note that the "Tianhe Sports Center" metro station on Line 1 (yellow) across Tianhe Lu at the corner with Tiyu Xilu is very convenient for starting and finishing a trip on the metro relative to the Fraser Suites. Also, Exit D3 provides access to "Fashion Tianhe Plaza" underground shopping arcades and food court.

Our return trip to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport was shorter: about 10 minutes to walk from reception to "Tianhe Sports Center" station and then 40 minutes on the train to Airport South (in the future there will also be an "Airport North" station). Change at "Guangzhou East Railway Station" from Line 1 (yellow) to Line 3 (orange).

We found the Tianhe Sports Center station more convenient even if we had to leave OneLink Walk mall and cross over Tianhe Lu. There are entries-exits on both sides of Tiyu Xilu, but not all have escalators, so check first if you have luggage.

We noticed that the Google street map and the satellite map do not correspond precisely when you switch from one to the other.

Room Tip: Check the windows in the bedroom before you accept and move into a suite. If any of the glass panes...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

Stayed in the hotel on two occasions within a week, each stay being 2 nights.

The first stay went like this:
-Check in was quick.
-First room smelled like it was a smoking room when they told me that all their rooms were non-smoking.
-Switched rooms which was a corner room and was better.
-Breakfast was very limited and not what you expect from Fraser Suites.
-During checkout I was told that two towels were missing! Was told face towels were missing. Went to the room and showed them the towels. Then I was told that the hand towels were missing. Had to explain that when they cleaned the room they never bothered to replace the hand towels for some odd reason the day before.

Second stay:
-Was upgraded to a suite since the premium studio was sold out.
-Suite looked smaller than the cheaper premium studio I booked but had an office area.
-On the second day breakfast seemed to have more variety which is good but still needs improvement. Having one type of cheese (cheddar) seems kind of lacking for a 5 star hotel.

Overall the hotel was excellent. We were told the hotel is less than two months old and it did seem that way.

The downside is their staff is extremely slow! During my first stay I called for extra pillows and had to call 30 minutes later to ask what happened. The staff said it should have arrived by now. He said he will follow up and the pillows arrived after another 20 minutes. 50 minutes after my initial request ! way too long. When I asked for a shaving kit, it also took over 20 minutes.
During my second stay asking for pillows and a shaving kit also took approx 30 minutes each time. They should get their act together in that respect.

Breakfast and staff aside, the rest was great and the location was also great. Beware of traffic during peak hours though.
