Decent property and great stay. Helpful and professional staff. Very roomy and well furnished room. Free interent in room. Really enjoyed the location on Shamian Island with its treelined streets and crumbling colonial buildings. Short walks to the metro (5 mins), main shopping strip (15 mins) and ferry to Bar st (5 mins). Very good brekkie buffet and freshly cooked omlette included in package. I thought this place was value for the 520RMB we paid. Note that there are two buildings and a number of room types and I think we got the mid-high end option. Not handy for the main train stations or bus stations but taxis plentiful in the area

I had 3d/2n accomodation at guandong victory hotel. Very relaxing stay. There are souvenir shops nearby which sells lots of jade, paintings, shirts, etc. In the morning or late afternoon you can have a leisurely walk at the park . Will surely come back on my next visit to Guangzhou.

Stayed two nights in a newly-renovated room in the west building. Prior to arriving, I advise you to check you have the address of the right building, as they are a short walk apart, and if you arrive at the wrong building in the rainy season like we did, you and your luggage won't like the wet and squishy walk to the correct building, even if assisted by the concierge! Wet and unpleasant first experiences aside, I loved this hotel.
Rooms are cosy and well-appointed, with a beautiful marble bathroom with rain shower and drinking water tap. Bed is utterly heavenly-- having just come from remote parts of west China where the beds were like ironing boards, I could have slept forever in this bed! TV featured many international English language cable TV channels, plus other languages such as Japanese. In-room Internet was reliable.
The rooms in our category are all smoking rooms, though when we contacted the hotel prior to our arrival about this, they offered to air out the room prior to our arrival. I am sensitive to cigarette smoke but did not detect a wiff of smoke; perhaps we were just lucky. The more expensive room categories have non-smoking rooms.
Breakfast was great, with an egg/omelette station, ample western and Chinese options, plus yoghurt and fresh fruit. As others have noted, the hotel has a strange policy of one breakfast per room, so if travelling with a partner you will have to purchase an additional breakfast (around RMB50).
The hotel is within walking distance to a metro stop, which we found handy considering how congested the traffic was.
I love this hotel and will definitely stay here on my next trip to Guangzhou. Highly recommended.

We stayed here two years ago and gave it a good review at that time. This stay we were given a musty room that had quite a problem with mold. The bathroom was pretty disgusting. If it weren't the Canton Fatr we would have tried to find somewhere else to stay, but we knew everything would be booked. The only redeeming quality of this hotel is that they have opened an Italian restaurant on Shamian island (5 min walk from hotel) that is quite good. We won't be back unless there is major reno work done.

This hotel is in a pleasant, quiet part of the city, Sha-mian Island, which was the old British and French concession in Canton. The island has a range of quaint buildings and garden-lined streets. We found the hotel efficient and friendly, with adequate-sized and very clean rooms and very good value for money. (It was too early in the year for the swimming pool to be operating, but that rooftop area looked good.) There are lots of reasonably-priced restaurants in the vicinity.
