This hotel is in a great location on the quiet and peaceful Shamian Island, but only a stones throw away from the dynamic market district. Ignore Lonely Planet's advice and take a look through the acres of Chinese herbs in Qing Ping Market. The seafood market is more confronting.

Value for money you can't beat the basic rooms. Unfortunately breakfast is average but you can walk to good dim sum around the corner.

Its an excellent place as the surroundings are perfect. A perfect place to jog in the morning and the river nearby. The people is the hotel staff still struggle with the english but they improved quite a lot from the last time. They have a good variety of food choices but mostly good if you are a non-vegetarian

Booked this via Agoda at significant discount which made it really good value. Room was very well appointed - felt like 4-5 star, very clean and everything worked just fine. Internet in the room works well for a change. The front desk staff very helpful and with good English.
The location is excellent and for tourists is an ideal choice. Shamian Island is great to walk around, then when you cross the canal, you are in the oldest part of Guangzhou (Old Canton?) which is also very interesting. Walk a couple more blocks and you are in a major shopping street (can't recall the name) where the locals go shop.

This was our second time staying at the Victory hotel. They are very nice and helpful with where to go and what to do in the area. It is located on beautiful Shamian Island which has everything you need. A big supermarket is only a short walk away and plenty of streets to meander around in. We stayed for 10 days at this hotel for our adoption. The hotel staff knew us by name and even remembered my daughters birthday. Our favorite staff member was Lily and she always greeted us with a smile. There is a nice little playroom for children inside the hotel. We have stayed here twice in the past 3 years. Internet was free when we stayed which is nice.
