Its an excellent place as the surroundings are perfect. A perfect place to jog in the morning and the river nearby. The people is the hotel staff still struggle with the english but they improved quite a lot from the last time. They have a good variety of food choices but mostly good if you are a non-vegetarian

Booked this via Agoda at significant discount which made it really good value. Room was very well appointed - felt like 4-5 star, very clean and everything worked just fine. Internet in the room works well for a change. The front desk staff very helpful and with good English.
The location is excellent and for tourists is an ideal choice. Shamian Island is great to walk around, then when you cross the canal, you are in the oldest part of Guangzhou (Old Canton?) which is also very interesting. Walk a couple more blocks and you are in a major shopping street (can't recall the name) where the locals go shop.

This was our second time staying at the Victory hotel. They are very nice and helpful with where to go and what to do in the area. It is located on beautiful Shamian Island which has everything you need. A big supermarket is only a short walk away and plenty of streets to meander around in. We stayed for 10 days at this hotel for our adoption. The hotel staff knew us by name and even remembered my daughters birthday. Our favorite staff member was Lily and she always greeted us with a smile. There is a nice little playroom for children inside the hotel. We have stayed here twice in the past 3 years. Internet was free when we stayed which is nice.

I would rate this like Best Western standard. The room looks aged and needed a face lift. The location however is very good. We walked to Guangzhou Restaurant. across the bridge from hotel, the best Chinese dim sum and cuisine ever, though everything in Chinese from menu to staff lingo. We walked also to Chen Ancestral home, great place to visit and Shangxia Ju pesdestrain street shoppping. Taxi to Beijing Lu is only 20 yuan and walking distance to the Nanyue Han mauseleum, a definite must. The map provided by hotel is dicey and we have to ask helpful friendly strangers frequently. Hotel only provide tea as beverage in room though offer us a daily cuppa of free latte at their cafe. Free English papers free on stands on room floor or at lobby. The hotel location , Shamian island is very scenic with grand colonial buildings, pretty treelined streets, like most of Guangzhou anyways, and nice view of Pearl river and skyline.
