Went to Guangzhou in May 2014. Stay 3 nights at Landmark Canton Hotel

Suggest: Ask for high floor (15 floor onwards) which I believe were newly renovated. I stayed at 21 floor which was clean and new.

Breakfast: Average...not much variety

Service: Did not use any accept we approached the security guard stationed outside the hotel to ask for direction...and he was helpful...including passerby also chip in. However, you need to be able to converse in Chinese or Cantonese

Massage: No massage service in this hotel but you can walk to Guangzhou Hotel which is only 5 to 8 mins walk. Standing inside the hotel lobby and facing the hotel entrance....you walk out to the right side...you will see Guangzhou Hotel. The massage was fantastics...the best so far. We paid $98 RMB for foot reflex (with ginger). Is good to shower before going there if you are doing the ginger foot reflex as we are advised that we cannot shower for 2 hours.

Shopping: You can walk to Beijing road within 15 to 20 mins. Same direction as per going to Guangzhou Hotel but instead of crossing the small road...you don't. you continue to follow the path ...along the way when you see the word 'wholesales' just pop in to see..you never know what you will get.......you probably will reach a traffic junction.and I would suggest that you ask passerby if crossing it will reach Beijing Lu.

Beware: We actually came with a tour agency and this trip almost perfect until we were brought to this Yanghe Jewelry/handicraft shop http://www.gzyhhcgyp.com/product_2.asp?id=516
. This shop will use a tactic to persuade you to buy...A man claimed to be the boss will say his company just got listed, he so happy, he will give special discount and donate the money to charities etc.....I can't say if the jade or ruby were of good quality or fake (we all pray that they are real stuff caused many of us purchased it) We found that this company using the same trick when we read this blog http://ccwen08.blogspot.sg/2013_12_01_archive.html (blog in chinese). So beware!!!

Room tip: High Floor from 15 floor onwards....likely to be renovated.

Really old hotel situated in the heart of guangzhou. Overall is a good hotel, that have seen their best days gone by. If for some reason you want to stay in this part of town, its a good option. But now in guangzhou there are a lot of better options if you don't mind to be a little far away from the downtown area.

stayed at Guangzhou on a few occasions but never experienced such rude service from hotel staff and especially a manager. the location is excellent, metro out the front, right on the river ,night clubs and restaurant's next door. it is also just a short walk to Beijing road

Room tip: ask for a renovated room

The hotel is an old property. Very nicely located right next to Pearl river, the Hotel must have been a prime property few years back. But now it is old, not well maintained and you can make out all signs of decay right from the entrance.

My room on 34th Floor gave a worn out look and with very old furniture and decor. Imagine the hotel room has a CRT tv still. Mainly frequented by locals, there is too much noise always in the lobby. The paradise restaurant however, on the 39th Floor was quite good and gives a splendid view of the river and city skyline. The food was great specially the sushi & smoked chicken salad.

The biggest draw back is that the staff does does not speak English and it is very difficult to communicate. For even small things like housekeeping service or room service, you have to explain to the staff at reception.

Room tip: Rooms from 30th Floor onwards have a better view of city skyline and pearl river cruises.

A colleague and I just spent 3nights at Landmark Canton and can recommend it for travellors to the Canton Fair. Rooms clean and big enoug, western and asian breakfast (both done well), gym, business centre and a bus running every 20 mins too and from the Fair. At night it is a two imnute walk to a tributary of the Pearl River. Loads of touristy and local restaurants looking onto the river. We felt save walking around and walked back from the main tourist area Beijng Road (1kilometer away) which is a oedestrian zone filled with shops, bars and restaurants. We paid Y1400 inc breakfast per night which i think was fair. When going to the Canton Fair you want to come back to a hotel where you have options to go out and enjoy yourself and feel safe. Landmark Hotel ticks this box.
