“Classic place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

Wilber's has a great vibe! It's really perfect for those passing through Guangzhou and want to get a slice of classic art deco dining amidst all the modern high rises. The food is delicious! Th steak is an excellent cut of meat that's really hard to find in southern china. The staff is friendly and they make some slamming drinks... Ask the bartender for his special, and then soak up the glorious canton atmosphere

“A wonderful meal in a beautiful atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

It is nice in China to eat somewhere with actual character. So many restaurants are in malls or buildings that were built only recently. Wilber's sets itself apart by actually being located in a large private house built long before today's manic urbanism. It is in many ways a destination unto itself. Well restored overall, it has quiet back patio with tropical plants and a cozy relaxed interior. After your meal go up on the roof with a last drink to get some fresh air and be surrounded by trees.

Really though the food and drink are the reasons to visit Wilber's. The manager Frank from America takes care of everyone and is very knowledgeable of Guangzhou. The cocktail selection is good (I loved my orange martini). As someone who likes beer I was a little disappointed by their selection, but Frank assures me they will be adding more imported offerings soon.

The food was excellent and showed an attention to detail that can be sometimes hard to find with western food in Guangzhou. To start with the house baked bread that comes free to every table was divine. All the soups I have had there are nice, the mushroom being my favorite. My friend said they loved their steak. My fish with a curry sauce was my favorite entree there, though the hamburger I had on another occasion was good, too.

Definitely recommend staying there late as well when the first floor turns into a more of an up-tempo bar. In fact coming here for drink alone makes total sense. All in all a real pleasure to visit. Perfect for a dinner with a loved one or with friends and colleagues. Highly recommended.

Thank you so much for your review. I'm very pleased that you enjoyed your time at our restaurant. And if you enjoyed the orange martini, you must come back and try the new cocktails since we have just gotten a new bar consultant from Hong Kong. Hope to see you again soon and thanks again for your detailed review.

Dear Andrew (and Amy), great to hear you were able to enjoy our restaurant even despite the monsoon occurring outside and thanks so much for the review. I'll be sure to let Seven know you enjoyed his martinis (he will like that). Hope to see you two in here more often. Always welcome! Oh and shoot me a message if you have any problems or questions with the information I gave you.

“Lovely atmosphere, great food, good location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

Spent a very pleasant Friday evening here. The margaritas were terrific!

The cream of mushroom soup was lovely and the fresh salmon was seared just right.

The service is great! The staff is fun, friendly, and attentive.

The wonderful setting is in a large, old house once owned by a powerful general under Chian Kai Shek. The style is European colonial with elements of old Chinese woodwork. The atmosphere is old-modern-elegant-cozy all at the same time. Sounds funny, maybe, but it works! Great for meals, hanging out, small parties, romantic evening, or just happy hour!

“Great place with great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

My friend took me here when I was visiting China and we had a fantastic time. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and a friendly and helpful staff. Our waiter recommended the grilled perch fillet and scallops with curry and it was totally delicious-- and I have pretty high standards when it comes to seafood. I would highly recommend this place to visitors and locals alike.

Dear Teresa, I'm pleased to hear that our seafood didn't let you down! Hope you are getting settled back into Boston all right after the jet lag (assuming you are back now). Welcome back anytime!
