“save money with Chinese hotels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2014

If you are looking to save money this was better than a lot of the lower priced hotels I have stayed in at least in China. Things you may want to keep in mind; a lot of taxi drivers didn't recognize this hotel so that made it a little harder to get back to the hotel, but it's near the zoo so you can use that to help your driver out and they speak some, but not a lot of English as they are a Chinese hotel. Otherwise the staff is very friendly and the hotel has a nice modern design. The rooms are clean and near a lot of interesting resturants. The bathroom walls are glass, but they had a curtain for privacy. If you want to save some money when you go to GZ then this is the place to go.

I had a two night stay in this hotel. It was cheap but it wasn't a good and comfortable experience. Though their customer service was good, it definitely doesn't cover up for the bad experience my mum and I encountered. A hotel room should be a place where guests can rest well, yet it caused trouble to us.

Firstly, there was a smell of cigarette smoke when I first entered the room. Secondly, the toilet door which is a sliding door could not be closed fully. It looks like the door was badly installed in the first place. Thirdly, on the first night, the air-conditioner leaked badly in the middle of the night like around 3am(?)! What a nice timing! The staff gave us three options:

(1) Move to another similar room but it is located far away from where we were.
(Would you even want to move that far when you have your family staying in 6 other rooms at the same row?)

(2) Move to the suite room near our room for the night and return back to the room when the next day when the air-conditioner is repaired. They could not give us the room cause, according to them, someone has already booked the room for the next day.
(This is their compensation to us but it didn't at all benefit us in any way. It was just a place for us to sleep for the few hours. Additionally, we had so many unpacked belongings lying around the room. The staff actually told us that we could leave our belongings in the room and we just move ourselves over then in the morning head back to the room to do our morning routines, and alternatively, we could move our luggages with us to the temporary room but move back again the next day. Left with no better choices, we chose this. We literally moved our luggages to and fro. It was so much of a trouble!)

(3) Stay in the room without air-conditioner.
(What?!!!!!)

The staff did apologise on behalf of the hotel but that didn't save us from all the troubles we had to face. In my opinion, the hotel management should be prepared to provide a better solution to reduce the amount of trouble to their guests instead of causing unnecessary inconvenience with the mindset that their guests would naturally accept it. After all, it is a hotel, not a hostel or guesthouse.

On the next evening, one of the other 6 rooms' air-conditioner leaked.

we ordered this hotel through internet ( without locals recomendation), but it was normal 3 stars hotel. The place is near very busy street and the air was not clean, but the advantage is that on this street was many different restaurants - bad air, good food :). The hotel was ok - especially wall of a toilet ( glass wall ), but no need to affraid of that as there is a curtain - so you will relax there "incognito"). Rooms was clean enough and we have no complains about that, but breakfast was simply poor and actually nothing to eat there. so, if you are dreaming about good breakfast, no need to go there, but if you don't care about that and you looking for low price - this hotel is just what you need in Guangzhou.

Room Tip: chose the room with the view to hotels inside yard - less noisy.

I booked for six nights at the Colourful Days Hotel after reading recent reviews on tripadvisor. Despite checking the location on Google maps and taking particular note of the location I walked back and forth pass the entrance to the hotel three times, in the heavy rain, with a suitcase, before a friendly security guard standing in front a shop a few doors along pointed out the entrance to the hotel. There is no signage whatsoever, either Chinese or English, at the entrance level to this hotel -weird, considering the name of the hotel was emblazed in large letters on every piece of glass and window once inside the room.

Reception were unfailing friendly and friendly as were the housekeeping personnel.

The room was relatively roomy with up to date furnishings, although there was some noise from the nest door room on a couple of nights - however over many trips to China I have noticed that Chinese people love to have the volume on the TV up VERY loud.

The bathroom was relatively clean however the towels, which were changed each day, were way past their 'use by date'.

The location is excellent, only a couple of minutes from Zoo Metro Station, with a multiplicity of restaurants within a couple of minutes walk and Zoo Station is only a few stops away from central Guangzhou.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the park rather than the road are somewhat quieter, however the rooms facing the street...

Well located, quite near city centre and metro station. Not so easy to find. The directions on their website don't make sense, the map location is misleading and their website doesn't give the address in Chinese. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, some expensive and some pretty cheap.

As for the hotel, I had a superior room and it was very nice. Big, comfortable bed, large window, good a/c, good WiFi and mostly clean bathroom. The TV had heaps of stations, all Chinese though. On the downside the fridge wasn't very cold and the towels smelled bad. It was also possible to hear the tv from the next room through the wall. There was a basic mini bar.

Staff were friendly but don't speak much English. Breakfast was decent with a variety of Chinese and western foods. While there was plenty to eat none of it was particularly amazing, but still good enough to fill up on.

Overall I had a good stay here and it seemed like pretty good value.

We stayed at the Colorful Days Hotel twice. Although the hotel offers basic accommodation the price is right for those on a budget. It is also close to the metro which is very convienient. The breakfast matron was very pleasant always offering us what she thought we would enjoy. However, they only serve a Chinese breakfast. Not to everyone's taste. Our rooms were comfortable and clean. We were on the quiet side of the hotel. We liked that there were many restaurants in the immediate vicinity to choose from: Indian, .Indonesian , and Turkish. Of course there were many Chinese restaurants as well. For the most part the staff was helpful and pleasant.

Room Tip: The zoo is nearby and a great place to spend an afternoon.
