“Great Hotel in Guangzhou”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

The development in Guangzhou made it rather difficult to find a place to stay as the options for 4-5 star hotels has increased. My friends and I spent 3 days/2 nights in Guangzhou and decided to stay in The Westin Guangzhou after seeing decent reviews online.

The hotel is very close to the Guangzhou East station where we caught the train from Hong Kong. The hotel offers a free shuttle and we made it to Westin under five minutes. The hotel is big and clean and the service was excellent. We were also able to check in early.

We stayed in a king deluxe room and we added an extra bed. The room is huge and spacious, even after adding an extra single bed. We stayed on the 27th floor and had a decent view. The bathroom amenities was complete with a big shower, bathtub, and toilet. The bed was huge and comfortable. Overall, the room was luxurious and comfortable.

They, however, only offered free wifi in the lobby. This is a huge letdown as we expected to be able to use the internet in our rooms for free.

Location wise, the hotel is about 5 minutes walk to the Lin Hexi subway station. It's quite convenient.

This hotel is so close to the Guangzhou East station where one catches a fast train to Hong Kong. It is also near to the major shopping malls and restaurants, just a few minutes' taxi ride away. The concierge was very helpful - he helped to buy my train ticket for me. I only needed to pick it up from the concierge desk the next day, which saved me a trip to the station. But they provide free shuttle rides to the station. There is also a foreign exchange machine in its hotel lobby which changes money at a very good rate. I've never seen one like this in all my travels to so many countries! The room was spacious and very comfortable. My only minor complaint is that the hotel information leaflets or booklets in the room did not seem to provide information about opening times and prices of services of the business centre and spa. Due to my short stay, I did not have ample time to try out the spa facilities. And they charge for internet access in the room. But there is free access in the hotel lobby. I will definitely stay again and recommend this hotel to friends.

The location is very close to the train station. But no much to walk around like garden hotel at the other side of the town.

The service is excellent. They keep the record of which room I stayed before. They can offer the similar room so I can have the similar experience.

The porter mistakenly sent my bags back to the room after I checked out. It delayed my departure time from the hotel. I wasn't very happy and told one of the staff members at the lobby while i was waiting. The staff very efficiently handled the situation although it isn't his area of responsiblity. Later on the day I received email from the hotel to apologies for the mistake. Very impressive way to turn the negative situation into possitve experience. Well done.

I used to stay at this hotel a couple of times a month when it first opened a few years back. I hadn't been back to Guangzhou for a while until a couple of months ago and even though there are many new hotels in the city, I chose to stay at the Westin again due to its proximity to the Guangzhou East train station.

I have to say I was very impressed with how well they have kept up the property. The public areas, executive lounge and the guest room were all well maintained, and the staff (particularly in the executive lounge) are courteous and helpful as always.

This is a great hotel if you are looking for a convenient location and value for money.

Room Tip: Concierge can purchase intercity train tickets (departing from the nearby Guangzhou East Station) fo...

In Guangzhou for nieces wedding so booked 3 rooms for the extended family, for 2 of them I took advantage of my Starwood Suite Award nights so were upgraded - excellent.

The rooms were spacious and well appointed. The two suites came with massage chairs that were given a heavy workout. The staff were very helpful, just as we have come to expect from Westin's around the world. We experienced breakfast in the restaurant which was of a high standard while one other couple choose the Executive lounge for a little more private dining.

Location is good and very convenient to shops, restaurants and the train.

My wifes father, loved the fact there were 2 pools - one inside and one outside, how many times do you see that in a 5 star hotel, so even though it was a little cold a swim could still be enjoyed.

Room Tip: Go for suite if you can... very spacious and if you can try the massage chair that comes with the Re...

The Westin experience is one that you will find throughout their hotels around the world and The Westin Guangzhou is no exception. The staff is friendly and helpful, the rooms and modern and clean, the bed is soft and inviting and the facilities are adequate and sometimes impressive. The downside to this particular hotel is the location and the restaurants. Location-wise it is in an area of Tianhe that is pretty far from most pedestrian areas. There are some office buildings so it may make sense if you are working close and a stadium across the street that doesn’t seem to be home to any team or anything in for that matter. But expect the taxi fares and commuting time to add up if you're based here and your business/personal duties are not close to the hotel. Also, the restaurants are extremely expensive. The breakfast buffet at Taste is very nice but at a cost that is not consistent with any of the other area restaurants (even western restaurants). The same goes with Prego, the Italian restaurant on the 40th floor where you pay USD 14 for a bowl of soup and Qba off the lobby. Although the Westin experience is consistent, so is the Starwood practice of nickel and diming clients once they are in their doors with outrageous prices ($16 per day for internet, etc...).

Room Tip: Choose a room that looks out over the stadium.

I was staying over there for one night on the OCT of this year.
The room itself was very clean and the employees were good at english as well.
I have a nice point of view on the Starwood Membership Program so I was satisfied there.
Restaurant, especially the Italian, was very nice.
