“Khobar citizen”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2010

I live in Khobar, and I want to share with you.

It is a small city, located in the east of Saudi Arabia.
considered modern city, people are well-educated compared to other cities in Saudi Arabia.

It has a beautiful beach and cornich with variety of western, Indian and Italian restaurants. It has got to big malls :Rashed Mall & Dhahran mall.

The city started with the starting of Oil extraction and the Saudi Oil company is located next to the city.

many activities can be done like walking, cycling, off road driving and fish hunting.

“Living and working Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2010

My husband and I moved from Australia and have been living in Al Khobar now for 6 months and we are enjoying it very much. It is a very friendly place to live and has a relaxed way of living that is very easy to get used to.

There is lots and lots of shopping where anything you can imagine is available from all over the world, many good quality restaurants, lovely gift & carpet shops down in the old town, and plenty of things for kids to do.

On the negative side there are no cinemas, women are not able to drive - but taxis are cheap, and the driving standard on the whole is not very safe and it can be quite scary being on the road as there doesn't seem to be any logical road sense from the locals or rules.

We have our own blog page which we started before leaving Melbourne and update regularly with photos, observations and just living in general ...... copy and paste into your web browser

“Places to go to in Al Khobar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2008

Al-Khobar (Khobar) is a relatively new attractive city in Dhahran area in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. With its long corniche (sea side) and closeness to Bahrain, it is the most modern and relaxed city in the Eastern Province. The population is diverse and it has many foreigners working for the Oil companies in this area.

My advice is, get to know the place with an open heart, meet locals, they are very generous and kind. And respect the dress code and conservative traditions.

Suggested Places to visit:
• Al Khobar Kornish:
A long stretch of seashore coastal areas overlooking the bridge linking Saudi Arabia with Bahrain. It has a titled walking surface that attracts walkers and joggers, as well as gardens for people to gather in and relax or do barbeque.
In the kornish area you can find different hotels, many restaurants and coffee shops like Chilis, Applebees, Fridays, Casper & Gambinies, and many others. And a huge book store (Jarir) selling books, dvds, and electronics.
This place also has a spectacular white-colored mosque, positioned on the water banks. Many tourists visit the Al Khobar Corniche especially for this mosque.

You can also go to one of the private beaches and enjoy the water

• Shopping
Al Rashid Mall: This mall has 6 major department stores and over 600 shops. It also has amusement arcades and restaurants. All kinds of shopping are available but mostly international brands. It also has Carrefour hypermarket.
Dharhan Mall: Also has a couple of department stores such as Debenhams and different brand stores. It also has Giant hypermarket and Kika furnituring store.

• SciTech
The Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Science & Technology Center in Al Khobar has seven themed galleries in a 35,000 square foot space, containing over 300 interactive educational exhibits.
Worthseeing is the Dome IMAX theatre showing very exciting documentaries and scientific movies
