“Friendly hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2013

First-class service here, from Reception through to the restaurants and room service. Not all the staff have a particularly high level of English but they are all very obliging and cheerful. The ground floor restaurant serves absolutely top-rate food, including wonderful local dishes, excellent coffee and decent beers. Bizarrely, there are no facilities for making coffee/tea in the rooms, though the mini bars are well-stocked, not like the miserly examples in many hotels. Families may want to be aware in advance that there are clearly some "working girls" on the ground floor, but their presence, if not their clothes !!] were relatively unobtrusive.

I am told that their are differences in words, both spellings and pronunciation but it still feels like Russia to me.

The hotel is very well located not in the centre but at a distance where access is easy off the main highway but you have to keep your eyes peeled if arriving by car.

It is modern, has a very good bar and restaurant, if you don't wish to go too far away from the hotel but still eat well then please avoid the other venues that show "traditional cuisine" that is where you will find you are still in Russia. That dish is over, please hurry we don't want to cook anything because its getting late, no we can't possibly not serve you half an inch of greasy cheese on top of that piece of pork - grrrrr.

The hotel is good whether breakfast or snacks or meals, if you want better foods outside you will have to ferret your way around to look for local cuisine.

The rooms were good, clean and well furnished, I doubt you would ever be disturbed by noise and the view from the 22nd floor is good especially at night and if there are fireworks, there are always fireworks they seem to be addicted to them, so get in the elevator and go to the viewing deck.

The hotel is glued to an aqua park-good for kids, reasonably ok, packed so be prepared to queue, the resident culture of drink is in here too, cannot understand people swimming around with beer cans in their hands. The park is well supervised and patrolled.

The hotel was good for an overnighter with friends and once again the views of the Kremiln and other notable buildings at night were great.

The city is not far away to walk even, go and take a look the Kremlin especially with its mix of cultures, the old Russian eagle looking east and west, clever chappies!

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the higher floors say above the fifteenth and city facing

Kazan is about 60 to 90 min flight from Moscow either on Aeroflot or S7. It is hosting the 2013 Student Olympics next month. The hotel is about 40-60 minutes from the airport, dependent on traffic, and can either be reached by taxi or you can arrange a transfer with the hotel but this is not cheap, but convenient, no fighting with taxi drivers!

The hotel is on the other side of a lake/river from the old town. If you get a water side view you have a lovely view of this, see attached pictures. Just in front of the hotel there’s a large water park, with a long straight pool for length swimming, and other fun pools of various depths for adults and kids, with water slides too! If you go for a superior room, or suite, entry to these is included in the room rate but otherwise you have to pay around 350 Rubles/person/day (I think). There is a health spa etc in the grounds too.

There is an entertainment complex next door with pool bars, 10 pin bowling alley and a number of restaurants and bars. The bar on the fourth floor has a lovely view over the water to the old town for a sunset drink, but beware of the mosquitos!

The hotel itself is clean and tidy and my room had a lovely large window looking over the “lake”. The bed was a king and lovely and comfortable but the pillows were rather small and too soft for my liking. Bathroom was medium size with a walk in shower, wash basin and toilet all spotless clean, as was my room. Typical fridge with soft and alcoholic drinks etc, but I did not use them as they generally are V. expensive. Every night there was a 500 ml bottle of water for free. Unfortunately there was no tea or coffee making facilities in the room. 20MB for fee wifi usage per day in your room or free wifi in the bar and public areas.

The breakfast is served in the “Amore” restaurant, included in the room rate, had a good selection of both hot and cold foods. Fruit and yogurt or cereals for starters, ham, cheese etc too. A hot selection too with porridge, and conventional things like bacon, sausage, omelettes, breakfast potatoes, pancakes. They had fried eggs too but for the four days I had them they were always cold as mentioned in a previous report! One morning, when I had the omelette, someone said they just had the chill off them. So I don’t know if this is a “normal” Tartar thing to serve them cold or if they are just prepared very early and left to get cold. However, for them to be like this for four days makes me thing this is the normal style, but not to my liking!

The staff are friendly and helpful, but some don’t speak very much English, but they generally “nip” off to get one of their colleagues that do so its works.

An excellent place to stay if you want water sports but about 3 miles (5 Km) from town. However, this can be reached in about 15 minutes by taxi for about 150-200 Rubles (£3-4) if you want to go sightseeing. Lots of other visits on offer to monasteries etc if this is your taste.

Would I go back, maybe, but as I am not a “water baby” I might try another hotel nearer the town. However, if you or your family loves water then this could be the place for you.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra and ask to a view over the water

Pro:
Hotel looks good from outside, entry fee to waterpark included in room rate

Con:
Comfort rooms very small, double bed very small, employee told us that our booked comfort room means a worse room than a Standard room - this is Russian logic!
Access to the beach pools and access to Fitness Studio only free with booking of a suite.

Breakfast very average compared to International standards, for example fried eggs are served cold - again Russian logic!

At check out we had to wait nearly 15 minutes till an employee hat checked that we haven't stolen something from the room - Russian logic!

Compared to other countries, service and value for money is bad in Russia.
There is no service culture in the country.

Room Tip: Avoid comfort room, there is no comfort!

Located across the river from the main town of Kazan, this is generally a well run hotel with plenty of facilities. Whilst I stayed in March (so a bit cold and did not make use of the aqua park) I could see why this place would be good for families.

I was not that impressed with the food in the Amore restaurant, the snacks in the bar were quite good though. Breakfast was OK, but I think catered for a more local taste than I was used to (given I am not local!), though the pancakes were nice!!!

Rooms are good, decent size and the higher up you go the better the view! I would recommend trying to get a room facing the river, as the other side of the hotel looks over the car park, though if you are very high up then you still get a good view of the wider town (but nowhere near as nice as the river side views!!!!). My bathroom was very smelly from the drains. They did fix this after a day, but it returned again.

The wifi in the first two floors was slow (but free), and they charge a great deal for use of it in the rooms.

There is not that much around here (other than the water park) and a taxi ride into town will cost between 140 and 400 depending on who you use.

Room Tip: Ask for a river facing room.

The hotel itself is not a top place but it is clean, nice and the staff is friendly.
The best is, as the hotel is a complex with a aqua park, entertainment center with cinemas/restaurants/pubs etc therefore there is a lot to do.
It is not in the hearth of Kazan but can be reached to Kremlin, Walking Street with not a long drive.
There are quite number of really nice restaurants and one very nice beer house inside the complex.
It also have a beach and water front.
Strongly recommend to stay here as there is many to do so wont get bored.

Room Tip: Try to stay at the rooms with river view not with the city.

I am very much impressed with the hotel I have never been before. It is true 4* hotel with solid level of service, nice breakfast, clean and fully equipped rooms (including safe and bath accessories, free bottle of water, LCD TV). Wi-fi in the bar/lobby is free. The most impressive is the aquapark as a bonus to the room value. Vere very good aquapark (open air with beach and inside part) where you can spend hours and hours. I really enjoyed it.
It was very interesting to find also in the complex with hotel the 3D and 5D (!) cinema and restaurants. So I can say all inclusive if you do not want to go to the downtown.

I would recommend the hotel, taking into consideration that the prices are quite OK (for Russia, and may be little bit hi for Europe). :)

Room Tip: As higher as possible, Kremlin and river view to get the best cityview!
