Bolshaya Pokrovskaya street is the central one in Nizhny Novgorod.
Its lengths is over 2 kilometres, and over 1 kilometre of which is the pedestrian part.
'Pokrovka' is the short for Bolshaya Pokrovskaya. That's how we call it.
The street was named after the church that used to stand in Pokrovka a long time ago - The Church of the intercession of the Holy virgin.
What is so interesting about this famous street?
Ok, let's start from its numerous stores, cafes and restaurants, souvenirs shops and other places where you'll have to spend rather big money if you want to understand the Russian culture :)
The next part is its unusual statues. You can meet them in any part of Pokrovka. You won't miss them because there is always a long line of people taking pictures of themselves with them. I attached some pics so that you can understand which statues I'm talking about.
There are also a lot of museums in the street - Art Crafts History Museum of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, The Puppet Theatre, Russian Photography Museum, Floristic Museum “Yurkovka”, Showroom “Pokrovka, 8”, Showroom 'Kladovka'.
If you start your walk from the square of Minin and Pozharsky you'll end up in the Gorky Square at the end of your route. There is a little park there where you can rest after a long journey. Just a few metres from you, there is MacDonalds if you want to have a quick snack.
