“Business trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

Very good hotel for a business trip in a convenient location. Small, single bed room but more than sufficient for 'just sleeping'.
All members of the staff are young and still in the 'learning phase', but always extremly friendly and helpful.
The only 'not so good' was the breakfast.

I cannot believe this hotel has such high ratings on Trip Advisor and many other signts. I arrived at the hotel only to find it looked like a haunted house. The front door was torn apart and there was a long set of steps that needed to be climbed to get to the front desk. As if that wasn't a bad enough start, when I opened the door to the room I was shocked. The wallpaper was ripped all over and coming off at all the seems. The floor was dirty and sticky. There is NO mattress on the bed. There was a 2 inch pad covered in a sheet. There was NO queen size blanket! There were 2 twin sized small blankets so you could not cover yourself and you companion. I can go on and on about how horrible the room and hotel was. I checked out as soon as I could talk to the manager in the morning. When I was told to grab some breakfast in their restaurant before the manager arrived I was about to eat my eggs and noticed a wall anchor in my eggs. Crazy!

Someone from Trip Advisor needs to visit this property and I guarantee they will no longer represent this hotel.

I didn't even get to mention that the location is the worst in the city. Furthest from all the sights.

This is truly a 2 star hotel at best.

Room Tip: Do NOT stay here

Dear Neilgr,

Thank you for your review.
Our hotel is situated in an old building on the main street of the city - Nevsky prospect.
So we are frequently forced to make all sorts of restoration activities in order to maintain its proper condition.
It's true that after you pass the entrance you immediately face the stairs but we do our best to inform our guests that they can use the elevator from the first floor to get to the lobby.
I am really sorry that you found our beds uncomfortable. You could contact reception regarding the bed - we would offer you to give one big blanket.
I am sorry about all inconveniences and really hope that you have had a chance to enjoy our beautiful city.

Best regards,

We just returned from St. Petersburg where we stayed at the Nevsky Forum Hotel. I am glad we read the TripAdvisor reviews and went with this hotel. From the moment we arrived to when we left we were treated so warmly that it started our trip to St. Petersburg on such positive note that St. Petersburg is now one of our favorite cities in Europe.

Svetlana and Masha at the front desk warmly greeted us when we checked in and remembered it was our 15th wedding anniversary. Whoever hires staff at the Nevsky Forum knows their job because Svetlana and Masha were some of the best hotel staff we have ever met – anywhere. Their English was fantastic and they were extremely helpful in telling us about the city and arranging things to do. They also seemed genuinely happy to see us and have us experience their city. The concierge also arranged ballet tickets for us at a modern ballet show. If you will be in St. Petersburg this fall we highly recommend seeing Rodin at the Alexandrinsky theater.

Alexander the doorman / security guard / bellhop, who did not speak English – although taught me some Russian words - was warm and friendly and kept the trip going on a strong note.

The rooms are simple and clean with that 1960s – 70s architecture – so you’re not going to get 18th century opulence or ultra-modern and simplistic. What was the most important to us was location and clean and we got both. We did not have any sound issues. You're in the center of the city on a major street so it was not "in the country" quiet either but same, if not quieter, than the sound levels we experience living in downtown Chicago.

We do recommend a guide for touring the city as they can get you in the Hermitage a lot faster and, for our trip to Peterhof, was able to get us a semi-private tour. If you need that person’s email, please contact me.

On a final note, I highly recommend taking the time to learn the Russian alphabet before going to Russia as many of the words are phonetic and the English equivalents are easily recognized. Even after a day we were able to read “Café”, “Market”, and most importantly, the street signs.

Pro's:
- Great location "in the center of everything" in Saint Petersburg
- Nice clean rooms
- Very helpful and friendly staff
- Great tasty breakfasts with the good selection
- Nice art objects on many walls (may be bought by guests)
- Very good price for the service and room quality provided
- Free upgrade and early check-in was allowed by request
- Complimentary WiFi in all hotel areas

Con's:
- The inner sound isolation not always perfect (noticeable but not annoying in our case)
- In-room WiFi on 4th floor had a rather weak signal/not always connected

Notes:
- Elevator sometimes is rather slow (not the issue really)
- It would be great to see toothpaste and disposable toothbrushes in bathroom

We are very grateful to staff for our perfect stay in this hotel on our short "just married" vacations in St Petersburg.

Excellent hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good location and easy to walk everywhere. Rooms at the front overlooking the street can be a little bit noisy when the traffic is heavy.
No tea or coffee available in rooms but available at reception at no charge.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the back of the hotel. No view but much quieter.

We stayed here by mistake because we confuse the hotel with another on Nevsky Prospect that no longer exists. We find a clean and comfortable option (and a restaurant with a very good quality for price value), efficient housekeeping and friendly staff. All without the false and presumptuous luxury of hotels close to Hermitage Museum. All info of the hotel web’s is real, good breakfast included, but for those thinking about it as an option, they should know:

a) The walls between rooms (at least ours) are made of paper. You'll hear everything from room to room. We only had a couple with a child one day but they sounded like they were in our room.

b) The hotel likes loud music: its volume in the restaurant is very high, almost unbearable during breakfast time (and most of the days it was hard rock). And in the street they have a speaker to advertise the Restaurant you will hear on the second floor rooms although they have a double glass (if you have a room to Nevsky prospect) .

c) The windows of most rooms cannot be opened. For us this that was, and it’s in any hotel, a serious glitch.

d) The room’s curtain has no protection against light. In summer this can be a problem since sunrise.

d) For people with claustrophobic problems the elevator, more than tiny, can be uncomfortable. In theory is for five people but two are too much.

e) We were unable to switch on the air conditioning to heat. We did not ask in reception if there was a problem, but probably the system can only work in cool or heat position for all the hotel. And not everyone has the same needs or preferences.

Conclusion: between the expensive hotels in the Hermitage area and this one, (not so expensive but not a bargain) it must be a better option in the city we don’t know.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with quiet neighbors: the walls are papermade.

Dear Triper_07,

Thank you so much that you found a time to write a review about your recent stay in our hotel.
Let me make some comments on your statements.
1) We do realize that we have some problems with noise in several rooms. But it just in 3 rooms. In near future we have a plan to make reconstruction in these rooms.
2) About music in the restaurant during the breakfast - we took into consideration this request.
3) Windows in all rooms can be open. The guests just need to ask a special handle for it at the reception desk. Our staff always ready to help.
4) Our hotel has two types of curtains - curtains with a black-out effect we use in rooms that overlook the south, and not as thick curtains we use in all the other rooms. We have this type of curtains for several years already and it is so strange and sad to hear that you had problems with sleeping at period of white nights because no one ever told us about such problems.
5) It's true that our elevator is not big. The hotel situated in old building and we couldn't to put another elevator. But besides this we have also a staircase. And of course our porter can help with luggage.
6) An air conditioner in our hotel do not work on heating (except 3 rooms), but you can always ask at the reception to bring you a heater and even extra blanket if you need it.
I am sorry about all inconveniences and really hope that you have had a chance to enjoy our amazing city.

Julia Dolgova

The staff was very attentive at all times. The premises are very clean, the reception was always on the alert to cater all our needs. Guests can enjoy complementary tea or coffee at any time of the day. The hotel is situated on Novsky Prospect which is the most important road in St. Petersburg. Three small issues, but really not preventing me to book again this hotel. Shower drainage a bit slow. On the day of departure the reception did not allow late checkout for a couple of hours so I had to leave the room at 12:00 sharp.
