“traditional pirovski restaurant on nevski”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

This restaurant ( apopular chain) specializes in filled pies ( sweet and savory) It has a menu in english and you can choose the size of the pie. We tried the borscht and the herring under its fur coat (cute name for herring under layers of beets, potatoes and eggs) and the had the salmon pie and the beef pie. Everything was good and we enjoyed it.

“Just fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

Delicious pies at a good price. Really really delicious. We kept going back for more and over a couple of days, tried almost every pie on the menu! Fav's were the mince meat and the salmon.

“I had to keep going back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

This place is a real gem. Amongst the more generic food places along the Nevsky Prospect, this really stands out as a true original. Home made pies of astonishing variety. Soft, sweet pastry and delicious fillings (meat, cabbage, egg and green onion, rabbit, cheese, mushroom, blackberry, raspberry... etc etc). Very reasonable prices and you can buy anything from a small slice to have with coffee all the way up to a whole pie to take home in a box to your family. You must try it (whether for a quick snack or an entire meal).

“Yummy, cheap pies”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Pos: the pies are great (cabbage is my favourite). It's fairly quick if you're in a hurry (as we were to get to the Hermitage). It's also pretty cheap. Tip: grab the menu on the counter- it's in English, all the labels on the pies are in Russian but if you show them on the menu it makes life a lot easier.

Neg: They run out of pies quite quickly. They didn't have many sweet ones left and we managed to get the last slice of the fish pie!

“Simple traditional russian salty or sweet pies and very good”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

This Stolle chain(?) offers several salty pies like salmon or meat and sweet like apple, jam pies. Sizing for pies is simple 125g piece/250g pc (8.8oz)/1kg piece (2 lb). Prices were very reasonable. Drinks available tea/coffee or some soft drinks. So selection is limited.
We visited this particular location and it contains few tables, so it is also small cafe. On a normal late Wed.afternoon tables were full and lot of people bought their pies to go. We had some meat, salmon and apple pies with tea. Surprisingly tea was German. Pies were very good and tasty, and apple pie also as a dessert. Apple pie structure is bit different and is not crunchy, but soft and moisty. Thanks to fast sales, pies are fresh.
There might be a small language barrier, but you can recognize jam/apple/salmon/meat etc and if you do not want ask ingredients/recipy/which jam, then service runs very smoothly.
