Several review about this place are kind of disappointed, but I actually like this place. It is overpriced of course, as everything in St Pit and Moscow but that is the other story. Remember that we are talking about one of the cheapest places in central area of St Pit.
If you need a mini-bar in your room- find the other place.
what I like about this place. It is clean (according to US standards), personal is very nice and welcome guests and wishing to help you if you would need help. The breakfast is great, AC was new and nice, space room. It is slightly away from metro, like 10 min walking, but still is much better than 5 zone of London, so in 40 min you could be in any place in the central part of the city. They are making is a real good espresso.
Disadvantages: small TV (for travelers with kids that might be some problem), slightly remote location might be a problem for those who like to live in the very center.
The price is probably the biggest issue. It is overpriced. I Would not say that night in this hotel could cost more than $50, max-70/night. But again- this is one of the cheapest deals that I was able to find online.

  • Liked — have one of the lowest price, breakfast, cleaness and nice personal
  • Disliked — somehow remote area, hotel was overpriced

Terrible welcome: room not ready, took away passport (for 2 hours for registration, they said!) and wouldn't give it back until we made a fuss, waiter was rude (we were waiting for a table, he came and asked how he can help us, I said we would like to have lunch, and he replied "Who's not letting you?" !!) ... when we finally got the room, it didn't seem "Superior" at all, very basic and not very clean. Two beds pushed together instead of a single bed, not ideal for a couple. We checked the hotel's description of the Superior rooms and found "shower and bath", our room didn't have a bath so we called the receptionist ... within half an hour we were upgraded (free) to their Luxury room - this was a suite of a room with a couch and a small bedroom. Smelled of smoke, still somewhat dirty (walls, curtains), but otherwise much better - jaccuzi, pad on the two beds pushed together so it feels like a single bed, 2 TVs, etc.
Breakfast was quite good; clearly geared towards cheaper ingredients but tasty and filling. I would not stay at this hotel again because of the staff' attitude especially.

I agree with most reviewers. Hotel was clean, rooms were fine but nothing special. Lobby unattractive, food unexciting, just adequate. It is not centrally located. Beyond not being centrally located, traffic jams make it impossible to breeze in and out from the city center. Metro is a possible solution, however, for those without wheels. Stores nearby for water, nosh. Can't talk about value since I came as part of an all-inclusive tour.

I am a travel agent and went on a self organised educational to Russia. The Andersen Hotel was offered to me via a local tour operator in Cape Town who in turn booked it through Intourist. The hotel was clean, no problem there but whoever designed that hotel did so without any imagination. The lobby is rather drab and unwelcoming. Reception staff is not overly friendly but that we encountered everywhere in St Petersburg. The hotel claims to have a sightseeing and transfer desk. Although this was manned all the time, with the exception of one girl on shift, the others could hardly speak English and could not answer my questions. I phoned in advance to organise a transfer from Finslandsky rail station to the hotel which was ok, the sour looking driver was on the platform with our names on a signboard but he could speak no word of English either. The transfers at this hotel are not arranged through a reputable transfer company, but rather with individuals who own a car and is called upon by the sightseeing desk. They seem to make up the cost of the transfers as they deem fit. There were at least two very serious looking security men on duty at all times, they hang around in the lobby, not sure why their presence should have been so obvious and even necessary, nothing of value to steal at that hotel! The buffet breakfast is adequate and so is the breakfast room although more fitting for a boarding school.
The do have nice breads in Russia, the black bread is particularly good. The location is not great either. It was a good 15 minutes walk to the nearest metro, Petrogradskaya which was the 3rd stop away from Nevsky Prospect, the centre of town.
My husband got robbed on the Metro so not a good location at all, otherwise we felt quite safe walking the streets.
This hotel is OK for the price but I have learnt a lession, in Russia do not go for the cheapest hotel, go for location and not budget either, but rather 4 star upwards.
Not a hotel where I will stay again.
