Owner description: Built in the early 1800s to duplicate the Vatican's Basilica of St. Peter, this huge cathedral served as a monument to Russia's victory over Napoleon in the War of 1812 and today houses the Museum of Religion.

“tell a tale cathedral”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

Located on the prominent Nevisky Prospekt is this semicricular Cathedral, the only attraction in St Petersburg without entry fee. The design of Kazan is more or less similar to St Peters of Vatican while It is debatable as to which design was emulated. Now a functional Church after the plunder and pillage of the Soviet regime, it is quite serene to walk in and around this attraction.

“High level Russian Orthodox”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

The sheer size of the building is quiet overwhelming and then you see the decorations inside and it takes your breath away. As a working cathedral a visit during a service is a must to get the full experience (standing only in Russian Orthodox so be prepared!).

“A warm reception for the heart of the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013 via mobile

Another great religious monument, that absolutwly cannot be unoticed, placed right in the middle of the Nevsky Prospect, somehow is shadowed by the other big attractions nearby (as Spas na Krovi, Hermitage, Neva Embankment), but still it is an unique attraction. No matter which season, the cathedral invites you for a short walk into it's garden, so that you would be placed in a manner that the Cathedral itself lays around the visitor, just as if it was hugging and wishing a pleasant stay.

“Architecture”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

This Cathedral is all about Architecture, The circular shape of its left/right wings adds something special to this Orthodox shrine. In my opinion, this Cathedral is best enjoyed at nightfall (if the night ever falls at this period of the year...). You can sip a coffee on the opposite side of the Nevsky Prospect and appreciate all the details of the building.

“Beautiful Cathedral”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

A must see, the Icon of Our Lady of Kazan is revered by the locals. A long line of worshippers, it was my understanding, is a daily sight. Worshippers pay their respects and it is one of the most beautiful Icon you will ever see.
