We stayed at the Helvetia for a three day weekend in May 2012 with our two year old twin sons. We had never traveled to Russia before and were surprised by how high the prices were, and it seemed that the Helvetia was fairly centrally located at a reasonable price; we were not disappointed. The Helvetia is right off Nevsky Prospect and the Mayakovskaya metro station is right on the corner; you are a short walk from all of the major sites. We never even had to get on the metro throughout our trip. Our room was spacious with more than enough room for two baby cots, a large bathroom and the largest bed I have ever seen (which would have slept four easily!) The wifi worked well. While we didn't have the breakfast, it looked very nice, and the hotel is around a central courtyard which was a great safe place for the kids to blow off steam. I would highly recommend it for families (though I would note that the section of the hotel we stayed in did not have a lift).
