“Outstanding--A "Don't Miss" in St. Petersburg!”
We dined here as a party of 10 friends vacationing in St. Petersburg. I agree completely with al the positive reviews--amazing to have this level of quality in a 24/7 restaurant that by all rights should be a tourist trap but is far from it! The menu is huge, with photos of all the dishes--again, a red flag in most places, but here a welcome addition. The dishes are authentic Georgian food, many with unusual, but delicious, flavors, and all extremely well prepared. In fact, we enjoyed it so much we changed our reservation the next evening to dine here a second time. Of the perhaps 30 different dishes we ordered (appetizers and entrees), there was not a single loser--truly! Special favorites were the eggplant and vegetable stew--similar to a ratatouille and out of this world-- the various flatbreads either stuffed or topped with baked cheeses, the shashliks (lamb and chicken), the chicken wings, charcoal grilled salmon and white fish, patties made of ground beets, hazelnuts and cabbage. The decor is warm and rustic, with cushioned banquettes. The service was attentive and friendly. Prices were moderate for St Petersburg, with entrees generally in the $20-$25 range. Most of us drank vodka, though some ordered glasses of wine that were pretty good. We determined (through careful sampling by the shot!) that Russian Standard Gold was better than the Silver grade, but surprisingly, also better, and less pricey, than the Platinum or Imperial grades. That said, a liter bottle costs about $140, so the alcohol markups are extreme (we had dinner at another restaurant during the trip where the same bottle was only $56!). All in all, a memorable experience.
