I stayed here a couple of nights for business during white nights, when the sun doesn't really go down. It's the time of year you could really do with good blackout curtains, but even though we were paying big money for a top floor room at the W do think they could manage curtains that actually cover the windows and keep the light out? No unfortunately... Apparently looking funky is more important than functionality at this hotel chain.
Same with the food - charge a lot (about $80 for a steak) and I guess they assume customers will think it's good quality. The staff seem to tolerate guests, not want to serve them. Even though they speak english it took 5 conversations for them to still get a simple cab booking wrong. It took 30mins to check out.
Style over substance should be the W motto. It looks great. But the only truly good thing about this hotel was the bed - perhaps the comfiest bed I have ever slept in. But you don't get great sleep with light streaming in the windows...
