“Nice hotel with a great spa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

It's a very nice hotel. It appears to be centrally located, but in fact it's a 10 minute walk to the closest subway station, and there is literally nothing to do in the near vicinity of the hotel. The hotel itself is very modern, and the rooms are fairly large. The breakfast was outrageously expensive, so we have not tried it. The spa, however, was great.

Despite a very poor experience upon check-in (the on-duty manager told us we had only paid for one breakfast, despite our booking confirmation clearly stating two, and then suggesting we had to pay for breakfast and then try and sort it out afterwards with Reservations when they were back in 2 days time!); the rest of our stay was of a good quality and enjoyable.

Firstly, the leisure facilities are excellent - perhaps the best I have ever experienced in travel to all parts of the world. A large indoor swimming pool with in-pool hot tubs, jets and extra features; all matched by the biggest variety of health treatment areas - sauna, turkish bath, steam room and even a snow cave! - as well as hot tubs, cold plunge pool and other service, in addition to a well equipped large fitness centre and options for a Women's only gym and the usual 5* health spa treatment options.

The room was of a good size and well appointed. Modern, very clean and certainly up to a 4.5* property. All the things you would expect - mini-bar, iron/ironing board/trouser press, complimentary water, kettle/tea/coffee, desk and bathrobes! Good, fast and efficient wi-fi connection helpful as well.

Once we finally sorted our breakfast (which was in the package we booked all along), it was a good variety of options and plenty to fill you up for a day exploring the city. We chose not to eat on-site due to high costs and previous reviews. We did have a drink one night in the bar and paid above average prices for the privilege!

Our room with a view did manage to see St. Isaac's Cathedral, once you managed to look beyond the derelict buildings under repair! Location wise, it is a minimum 20 minute walk across the Neva river bridge to The Hermitage, and beyond into the main centre of town and Nevskiy Prospekt. But don't let that put you off staying here in warmer weather, as it was a great walk each way and meant an otherwise quiet location.

Only points of disappointment:
- we had a funky smell coming from shower drainage
- not always towels available in the pool area
- TV channel options limited

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend highly if you can afford to spend a bit more. The pool and leisure facilities are certainly worth the difference!

Room Tip: If you can afford it, pay for a Superior Room - this guarantees a bath and a kettle; otherwise both...

Recently we booked a Saint Petersburg city break with Jet 2 Holidays, attracted by the special direct flights they were operating on just two weekends in May from Leeds to Saint Petersburg - just 3 hours 10 minutes flying time! Looking for a centrally situated hotel within walking distance of the Hermitage, we initially chose to book our three nights bed and breakfast at the Sokos Hotel Vasilievsky, but a week or so before departure Jet 2 upgraded us to the Sokos Hotel Palace Bridge. I had mixed feelings when, on arrival, we discovered that the nearby Palace Bridge, the direct approach to the Hermitage, was closed for repair work, necessitating a long detour on foot. However, my wife simply loved the comfortable, welcoming, attractive Palace Bridge Hotel, especially the magnificent free spa facilities. We soon found that the best way to the centre was a 4 minute metro ride from Vasilievsky underground station - very cheap and easy to use. We saw the main tourist sites: the Hermitage museum (two visits - booked on the Hermitage's web site before departure - I highly recommend doing this), Peterhof with its magnificent palace, fountains and gardens (I recommend using the hydrofoil from near the Hermitage), and Catherine Palace and Alexander Palace with their equally magnificent gardens at Pushkin (we took a taxi there and returned by bus and metro). Prices are quite expensive in the hotel, but the quality of the breakfasts was very good. We also had a delicious evening meal in the Spanish themed hotel restaurant. Free WiFi throughout the hotel was a definite plus. You can, of course, find more reasonable prices in nearby bars and restaurants. Having studied some Russian at university in the dim and distant past, I found making my own excursion arrangements reasonably straightforward. Jet 2 had, however, organised a daily programme of visits through a local agency, and I can appreciate that those without any experience of the language or alphabet would have found that reassuring. A minus point was that we were unaware of most of this programme until arrival! Nevertheless, the Jet 2 staff performed their duties admirably, the hotel staff were welcoming, helpful and friendly, and the locals in general were very approachable - again it obviously helped having some language experience, but even just a please or thank you will help. There was no problem obtaining currency - the ATM near the hotel reception worked perfectly each time.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience from start to finish, and my wife now has her mind firmly fixed on a trip to Moscow. The visa costs (over £100 each!) may deter some travellers from booking trips to Russia, but it has been a dream come true for my wife, who has always been interested in the history of this fascinating part of the world. Congratulations to Jet 2 for their efforts to make this wonderful destination easily accessible from our part of the UK (they also organised similar breaks from Newcastle and Scotland, I believe) and for their selection of good quality hotels.

Modern, stylish, spotlessly clean Hotel. Reception was quick, friendly, efficient at both check in and check out.
The standard room was of a decent size, clean, very quiet.
There was an iron, excellent shower, but no kettle/ tea making facility. That apparently is only provided to Superior rooms ! You can use the excellent spa, and you can have smoked salmon with prawns and Champagne for breakfast, but you can't have a kettle and a few tea bags !! Complete nonsence...Mr Sokos, you are spoiling the ship for a kopeks worth of tar.Put a kettle in the rooms.
The breakfasts were very good.
The price of food and drink were laughably extortionate, but if you want a few drinks or wholesome food with more local ambiance and at a sensible price then there is a bar/cafe opposite the hotel. Next door is a small supermarket . It's only a 10-15 minute walk to Palace square. It's a good place to stay for a few days...just eat and drink elsewhere unless you are on expenses.

Travelled with a work group, hotel team was efficient with check in and the rooms were very clean and tidy. The pool, spa and gym at the hotel was world class and made the visit very pleasurable. A great location to walk around and have a look at aspects of life in the city.
Enjoyed my stay here

Stayed here as part of organised tour.
On arrival, no porters available to help with luggage.check in was a bit chaotic.
Rooms modern & swish. Wifi in rooms.
Breakfast was a big bun fight! The restaurant was unable to cope with large groups arriving all at the same time. We struggled to find a table free, often tables weren't reset or cleared. Breakfast buffet was always in need of being stocked up. Often very little left, with one member of staff refilling one item.food was ok but the whole experience was not what you expect of 5 star.coffee was in big erns, only decaff option was a jar of instant coffee !
We stayed 6 nights & breakfast was never any better.
House keeping was not up yo scratch. Bed linen not changed over the 6 nights. Returned one day at 4pm & room had not been done. The next day, toiletries & bottles of water not replenished.
This is a swish looking modern hotel but is let down by all of the above & not a 5 star!

Location is good, 10 min walk over bridge to all main sites but unfortunately the bridge was closed for renovation during our stay, so it was a 50 minute walk via the next bridge or a 15 minute walk to the metro & 1 stop.
Would not choose to stay here again unless they massively upgrade standards of service.

SOKOS bridge palace is a well furbished comfortable hotel for groups but do not expect a quiet enjoyable stay if you wait for some relax family stay as Mexican groups will make your stay a stressfull one specially for breakfast time with no seat available and fight to get anything from the open continental buffet. Of course, the city is a wonderful place for people in search of cultural and Russian past history as we are but kindness and politeness are not in Russian standards way of life so dont wait anything from local people in case you get lost and try to find your way back to the hotel especially when it's raining as cabs will ask a fortune to drive you back to your hotel. The spanish Sevilla restaurant offers nice meals with professional staff but the Bar is a place to avoid with unpolite and even rude Russian bar tenders. I will definitely not recommend this place to any French friends and I am even very disappointed with the local people behaviour. The world is big enough to avoid such dreadfull service overpriced.

Room Tip: we requested 2 rooms next to next during bookung and did even not get.
