“Ok hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013 via mobile

This is, currently, one of 2 or 3 acceptable hotels in Petrozavodsk
Rooms are quite large and comfortable - but extremely hot
Found hairs in the room that were not mine :-(
Distictive lack of light in the room
Staff is ok, from very good to plain uninterested, but that is ok for Russia
My compliments to the reception staff though
Views are fantastic
Breakfast is Ok, don't go to any of the restaurants as you'll find better, cheaper and with more atmosphere just walking 10' or so
Do NOT go to fitness : small and very bad sweaty smell

First of all the farce of the passport at check in.. They needed to see my Soviet internal passport or they would not be able to check me in...or possibly inform the KGB I was here... Ghen there was dinner where I had to wait 1 hour for my food.. So my conclusion is that outwardly it has the pretence of a 5 star but under the skin is an Old style Soviet hotel... Rooms are average, but not worth the money...Would not reccomend

Since my last visit to Petrozavodsk over five years ago, this city has changed a lot to the better, even though the flights from Helsinki and St Petersburg have been discontinued. Onego Palace is one of the new hotels, centrally located, clean and safe. The rooms are comfortable and the service is good. Airconditioning in the room did not work well, but internet connection was excellent and free of charge. This is a good choice for a business person, because all important appointments are within walking distance. The atmosphere is somewhat melancholic in the city, because all soviet industries are gone, and there are no new investments, except shopping centres and hotels. However, Petrozavodsk is the gateway to the Karelian nature and old culture, much valued by the Finns as well.

new building, in the centre of city. Staff at the reception smiles, but nothing more. Back to uSSR, with the addition of smile from the staff. breakfast is poor, no water, sometimes even bread. Too hot in the rooms, and you can not manage to regulate it. Service at the bar and restaurants too slow, but they do not care, as clients have not much to choose to go.

This is a nice, clean hotel located well in Petrozavodsk, with three restaurants in the hotel and several nearby. The internet worked well, and I was thankful for the double set of black-out curtains due to the "White Nights" of Russia (no darkness during summer). The staff did speak English, as well as the help at the restaurant on the second floor. The breakfast was a typical mix of meats, cheeses, pastry, and hot food in a Russian breakfast buffet - and it was good, but not spectacular. There is free parking and since it is near the lake, an evening walk was very enjoyable. The bathroom had a floor level shower stall, curtain, sink and commode. The bedroom had a wooden closet with safe, a desk and lights at each side of the bed. This would be my choice again when visiting Petrozavodsk.

A new hotel situated right on the embankment of Onego Lake. We booked a double room for smokers - it is a standard room with a balcony. The view on the lake is fantastic. We ordered food at night and the personnel cooked for us. The room is clean, there is a tv, a wardrobe, chairs with a table, in the bathroom there are shower gels, shampoo, towels, but no bathrobes. You can see a wedding at the hotel as it is a popular place for such events. And there is also a wedding registry office in front of the hotel. On the last floor there is a restaurant. A nice hotel to stay for business or with your girl/boyfriend.

The hotel was located next to the lake. Unfortunately our room didn’t have lake view. The staff spoke very good English and was very friendly. The girl in the shop was also very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was ok. There was air conditioning in the room, but it didn’t work (also not in other rooms). The room was very warm (28 degrees), but fortunately we could open the windows. One of the windows in our room didn’t close well.
There is a nice restaurant on the 11th floor and the bar in the lobby is ok too.
Wifi was only available in the lobby.

Poor value for money for hotels in this part of the country.
