“OK hotel, bad plumbing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

We got a very good deal on this hotel through a booking website, 1925r/night for an economy twin. The receptionists were fine. Several spoke English, a few were especially helpful. The hotel is clean, the housekeepers were friendly. We got our first room (501), which had a crumbling entryway and exposed wires. I am not very particular so we stayed there the first night - but the toilet situation was very disheartening. The bathroom was clean but smelled like an open sewer, which it appeared to be - you could see water bubbling under a drain cover in the floor. The smell came into the room and we asked to change to a different room. We were moved to a better room on the 6th floor, nearly the same floor plan, and the toilet was better though still a little smelly but not unbearable. The lobby toilets and the hall toilets were spotless and not smelly so I don't think it's an unmanageable problem. The free breakfast in the morning was fine, though a little thin if you get there late. Still, I was happy with blini and coffee and jam and yogurt. Otherwise everything was fine, decent location, good service.

Room Tip: Avoid room 501 - very stinky

We arrived in Vladivostok early in the morning and there were no rooms available. The receptionist Ana, suggested we tour the city and in a few hours our room would be ready. She provided us with excellent directions and her English was really good. We followed her advice which was spot on. She advised us to take the bus to Russian Island which was a nice trip to see Vladisvostok for 34 rubles for return ticket and you go over the two suspension bridges. We then stopped off at the Funicular bus stop and took the Funicular to the bottom. 8 rubles. We then walked to the S56 submarine and had fun inside. 100 rubles. We also spent time at the war memorial. We walked to the main square, then to the train station to take a photo of 9288 km sign. We walked back to our hotel which is 5 minutes from the train station. So we got to see the highlights of Vladivostok for around 150 rubles thanks to Ana! Rooms in hotel are clean albeit a bit dated but it was perfect for us being so close to train station.

The room was nice enough, with a plug in radiator, tv with an English news channel, hot shower, comfy bed. The receptionist we first dealt with was miserable and rude, and just grunted at us and rolled her eyes because we were too early for check in having just got off the morning train from Khabarovsk. Fortunately, a younger receptionist with a nice smile appeared, spoke to us helpfully suggesting a few cafes nearby to pass some time, and we tried to forget about the other woman.
Breakfast is terrible. Unidentifiable cordials, gloomy porridge, bread rolls filled with things you don't expect for breakfast, like potato, egg and dill. Don't come here for the breakfast, but for the cost of the room in a city like Vladivostok, the hotel is still decent value for money. There is also wifi free in all the rooms, which is a nice exa.

I stayed for two nights and booked a deluxe room (4500 rbls/night). The size of the room was very good, the bathroom very large with a huge showercabin. Bed-area could be seperated from the sitting/desk area by a curtain. Big fridge in the room. Most important, the room looked nice & maintained, no run down furniture or such. There is some noise from the street, but it did not disturb me very much. I happened to see also a single room (2500 rbls/night), which compared well to what I have seen in other Russian hotels and would have absolutely been an acceptable and clean option.
In the winter, as in plenty Russian hotels, they switch of the airco, put on the heater and you have no further control over it, except for opening the windows from time to time, which is what I did.
The hotel gives overall a good impression, elevators, pool-room, ironing-facilities, a restaurant, reception was fine although communication prior to my arrival failed from the hotels side. Breakfast is the usual Russian selection with sausages, pancakes, rice, macaroni, eggs, potato, buckwheat, dairy, some fruit, vegetables. Coffee was poor. I was happy with my stay. The city center of Vladivostok is within easy walking distance and it is about 8 minutes to walk to the railwaystation. I found the price for the room very reasonable and pretty much got what I expected.

I stayed for 2 nights in the hotel on 28 and 29 Nov 2012.
I was greeted by a rather lukewarm reception with just one receptionist being able to speak English. However, she was rather helpful in answering my queries and provided relevant information.
I was slightly disappointed upon arrival on seeing the building but was pleasantly delighted at the small but practical room with a well equipped bathroom which has a hot shower within minutes.
The hotel was conveniently located within walking distance to sights around Vladivostok and restaurants such as Republic and Vustok. More importantly, it is close to the railway station of about 10 minutes walk.
I would love for the hotel to have an ATM but there is one at the supermarket next to it or at hotel primorye across the street.
I would strongly recommend for anyone looking for a cheap and comfortable stay in Vladivostok.

Zemchuzhina Hotel - Vladivostok

external looks can be deceiving ...................

Intro

-Looks old and very ordinary from the outside, rather like a typical old Russian apartment block
-A former military hotel and still used by uniformed military officers and other personnel
-Now under new management and has been completely refurbished inside.
- Very modern with good fixtures and fittings throughout making for a comfortable stay

Good points

-Met at airport on arrival as requested and, the taxi driver spoke fluent English and turned out to be a great contact in the city
-Most receptionists speak English- some better than others-some smile, some don't !
-Location very good 10 minutes brisk walk to centre and station, lots of bars and restaurants close
-Room - business double very comfortable and very well equipped including tea and coffee making facilities and a limited selection of kitchen utensils if you should need them
-Bed extremely comfortable
-Shower excellent-invigorating
-in house cafe/restaurant with good menu
-free Wifi fast and stable
-City centre and all sites and buildings of interest walkable
-24 hour supermarket very close

Bad points

-Hotel surrounded by typical Russian style old apartment blocks- at first sight - location doesn't seem good-but the standard of accommodation in the hotel and with Vladivostok city cente and trappings at your finger tips, this image quickly evaporates.

Conclusion

-Good value for money considering hotel amenities and city centre location
-An alternative 3 star hotel is located very close which does have a better reputation than this one, however slightly more expensive and not yet listed on search webite I used
-A nice stay, nice hotel in a very cosmopolitan city-a city with attitude!! I have travelled considerably now in Russia and Vladivostok is a different city that’s for sure-with now maybe Moscow prices.................food for thought

Room Tip: -Single rooms are quite small -a businss doubleat a skightly higher rate are much more comfortable
