I have stayed in Magadan once before in the VM Central. See my review..... VM was alleged to be the best hotel in Magadan, and I do not doubt that it was. That is all changed now, with the arrival of the Golden House.
To put this in context, you have to understand about Magadan. It is a run down town, in the Far East, built to serve the Gulags. Although it has a charm, and the people are great, it is not a tourist destination.
The Golden House has just opened. I think it was open only two weeks when I visited in April, having checked in to the VM. A chance encounter, going to the Silver Lab coffee shop (see elsewhere) and I found this gem. It is on the floor below the Silver Lab.
The Hotel is spotless; trendy; beautifully furnished and of a standard you would expect in any top class European city. It is though not in a position to provide the same service - for example, there is no restaurant or room service; or gym, or any of the other things you might expect. As far as food is concerned, you will be able to use the Silver Lab coffee shop and the deal I had got me breakfast there and wifi. There is also a large supermarket about five minutes walk down the hill away from the roundabout. It stocks enough for you to eat in the room. I usually carry a travel kettle, coffee and a coffee jug. There is a fridge in the rooms and it is easy to get some milk, and hey presto: you have in room coffee.

The hotel is owned by a gold mining company (hence the precious metals names) and it is clear that they are pitching to that market. There are only about fifteen rooms and they have the feel of an office block. But, as I said, they are comfortable and quite unexpected in standard for such a down at heal city. The star rating is of course on a comparative basis rather than worldwide.
Highly recommend it. It is a haven from Magadan..... warm; nice staff; and very comfortable.
I had two rooms. They were equally good and well placed. The large room was huge; the smaller one wa...
