The former hotel Melody, now renames the Arbat House Hotel, is located in a very quiet residential street a few minutes walk off the Arbat and about 15 minutes walk from the Kremlin and Red Square.
The lobby is welcoming with lovely furniture and a hot drink machine that makes all sorts of possible coffee-milk-chocolate-Baileys combinations.
Our room was on the first floor, up a lovely staircase, but there are also two lifts if you have luggage.
The room was perhaps on the small side, but perfectly adequate for European standards and had everything you could need. A particularly nice touch were the disposable toothbrushes and packet of cotton buds in the bathroom.
On the ground floor, behind Reception, there is a water cooler which is a godsend for refilling your water bottles, as tap water is best avoided in Russia.
In any case, there is a small supermarket at the end of the street for anything you may need.
We had breakfast in the annexe restaurant, with a cosy atmosphere and seats outside on the street.
Choice was quite wide, if not massive, with different types of cereals, yogurt, cheese and cold meats, bread, hot pancakes and cupcakes. We always went down around 9am and never had any problems in finding a table or warm food.
We had dinner there one night, and although not particularly cheap, it was average for Moscow standards, service was good and the dumplings and borscht tasty!
Staff at reception was helpful when we asked them for directions and suggestions; there is also an assortments of leaflets for local attractions, museums and restaurants, plus a useful map of the city.
Oh, and there is free wifi throughout the hotel, I could easily connect from our room, as well as the lobby and the restaurant.
Overall, I would happily recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay within walking distance of all the main sights, we could not have been happier with the location and I doubt there is anything better in town at these prices!
