“Great location and good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012 via mobile

The location is excellent - located just off Tverskaya and Pushkin Square with some great cafes and restaurants nearby, and unless you're really opposed to walking more than 20 minutes it is easily within walking distance to the Bolshoi and Red Square. The hotel is decked out to a high standard although the room wasn't necessarily anything special - it also lacked a view out onto anything but the brick wall of another building, it didn't include tea/coffee making facilities despite being advertised and the shower curtain was next to useless. We didn't have breakfast included (since we booked through Expedia rather than the hotel's website) and at £30 each we weren't about to try it. The bar and restaurant looked very nice but again we didn't eat there as a main course was approximately £40 by itself. The staff were pleasant and spoke good English but weren't overly friendly, though they did go to the effort of finding us a room at 9am after arriving on a train from St Petersburg, so we were really grateful for that. We paid £240 for three nights and given the location we were happy with that. If we'd had breakfast included in that rate I think we'd have rated the hotel higher but as it was it provided a comfortable place to stay at a reasonable rate in a great location of a sprawling city of overly expensive hotels.

I had high hopes for this hotel but can't give it 4 stars...if there was a 3 1/2, that is what I would rate it. The staff is lovely -- really helpful and attentive. And the location is good, reasonably close to major sights and transportation. The rooms, however, are not up to a 4-star rating. They are small and somewhat industrial as opposed to truly having modern decor. There is also some construction in the area, which can be loud during the day (not a problem for many but if you are traveling with jetlag, not ideal). And the walls are thin with sound coming through from adjacent rooms. I know that Moscow is expensive but at this price point, I expected more.

Dear guest,

Thank you for staying at the Golden Apple Boutique Hotel and taking your time to bring these matters to our attention.

Golden Apple is rated as a 5* star Boutique hotel and we were sorry to learn that you didn’t like the design of the rooms since many of our guests liked it and found this “minimalistic style” charming. Regardless we would like to offer our sincerest apologies that we did not manage to meet your expectations.

We regret to inform you that noise coming from outside was caused by the road reconstruction which was organized by city authorities and unfortunately they do not inform us in advance. However we do understand the inconvenience caused and we are extremely sorry that we couldn’t improve it.

Your kind comments are greatly appreciated. Customer care is amongst our highest priorities and it is always gratifying to receive such praise. I have brought your comments to the attention of those concerned.

In closing I would like to thank you again for taking your time and sharing this important information. I would like to assure you that your opinion is really important for us because the comfort of our guest is the main priority for the entire staff of the Golden Apple Boutique Hotel.

Best regards,
George Kurdevanidze

Really enjoyed my stay at the Golden Apple!
The staff we extremely helpful when I arrived - my taxi driver was trying to charge WAY too much for the trip from the airport, and went over and above to help me deal with the situation.

The rooms are well out together and designed, although they're a bit small. The shower curtains are inadequate, leaving water all over the place when you shower. And the free wifi is really really slow; you need to pay for 'normal' speed wifi.

But the food was good - breakfasts and dinners - so overall a good place to stay in Moscow!

For a business trip in Moscow in December, we stayed a week in this hotel. Probably the only negative is the somewhat high price for the hotel and the food & drinks. Everything else was very good. It is located 300 meters from the Tsverkaya metro station, and very nice located towards the centre and the Kremlin. The staff was friendly, the breakfast was superb, the room was comfortable, modern and styled, wide elevator, and nice restaurant and cocktail-bar inside. If you can afford, definitely stay here!

Good service is difficult to find in Moscow but this hotel was certainly the exception. The hotel itself is very nice, very well located about 15 mins walk from Red Square and very close to a lively area with plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from. That said, the hotel is in a quiet street and there is no traffic noise disturbing sleep. Rooms are good, without being particularly large, but the place has character typical of most 'boutique' hotels. The reception staff was excellent, even smiley (a very rare exception in Moscow, where let's face it there isn't much to smile about) and helpful in recommending and booking local restaurants. Stayed there 2 nights on business, close to the Metro station (don't use a taxi to get around unless you have to) and had a comfortable and pleasant stay. Would recommend.

First of all big thank you to Golden Apple for helping us out in Russian visa arrangements, as well as providing lovely accommodation and friendly atmosphere. The hotel is in a great location, short walk (around 15min) to the Red Square and Bolshoi Theatre, 5min walk to the metro station. The room was nicely decorated with super confortable bed. We were not really lucky with Moscow weather, the temperature was very low and on top of that we had nasty rain - must say that hotel's umbrella and heated floor in the bathroom saved our lives (at least we could dry our completely wet shoes). All in all it is a great place to stay when in Moscow.
