“frozen in Soviet time”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012

i stayed in the hotel for one night. The overall feeling was that i am back to the last years of the Soviet Union. At the entrance there are 3 security persons, who gives me more impression of possible troubles than of protection. Name and passport details of all visitors will be writen down by the one of the security guys, however the visitor can tell any possible room number where he/she is going , no check if the receving room is waiting for this visitor, so the control is not working, but passport details stay with the securty. I had a problem paing by card (did not go thru), ended up withdrowing cash from the closest ATM. And was observer of a scene when one of the guys on reception was not able to explain where GUM is located at the Red Square (impossible to not know it if you ve visited R.S. at least once). I have an impression that Peking is a good option if just bed and central location are needed, but dONT expext helpful tips & recommendations, helpful and friendly staff.

We stayed one night at the Peking Hotel after a week in the Caucasus Mountains and Terskol. Beautiful facility and excellent service. Convenient location for seeing all the sights in Moscow. No communication difficulties and all needs were fulfilled. Wi-fi in rooms, breakfast buffet was amazing, and we also enjoyed an excellent lunch meal with nice beer and wine selections. Would certainly recommend as the experience was wonderful!

I love the architecture of this building. Legacy of Stalinist architecture. The location is excelent. There's underground station in the corner. I stayed with a friend in a high floor with views of Sadovaya Bol'shaya Ulitsa. Breakfast was nice and the no complains about the staff.

Location: Very good, 5 min. walking distance from metro station Mayakovskaya (2 metro stations from Red Square, Kremlin etc.).

Rooms: Pretty impressive building, quite big and spacious rooms, beds are nice, bathroom is also very decent, basic (and some more) amenities are there. Rooms are clean.

We did not have any breakfast or dinner in the hotel, so, unfortunately no review on that is possible.

Price is OK.

Conclusion: It is a city hotel, very decent, with a very good location and in case you want to use it as a base for exploring the city, it is a very good deal.

Stayed here 8 days in May 2012. This is a clean, older classic hotel with a lot going for it. Three elevators, wide carpeted center staircase, ATM in lobby, currency exchange office in the lobby, plenty of space in the room, same chambermaid all week who constantly cleaned the carpeting in the halls, staircases etc. Street side rooms could be noisy, ask for garden side room.
Five minute walk to the metro, 30 minute or so walk to Red Square ( 2 metro stops). Breakfast is fine and there ample restaurants just outside the front door or across the street for dinner. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the garden side.

This is my second stay at the Peking Hotel and there are some noticable improvements. Wireless is now free in the rooms (although the in-room hotel guide still advises you to buy a wireless card at the desk), there's a new english language cash machine in the lobby (although its often out of cash), and I got a complimentary card for a free foot massage at the spa in the hotel. The good things are still all there - great free breakfast, great location, nice coffee/pastry shop attached to the hotel and a metro station right across the street. If you'd enjoy staying in an iconic Moscow hotel as opposed to a typical chain hotel and you have a flexible approach to life, then this could be a great option for you. The desk staff all speak english and are friendly and helpful. I'd actually give this a higher rating if there was an option between average and very good.

Big hotel in the centre of Moscow. Well located but a bit old. The rooms are quite big but the furniture and installations a bid old and old-fashion.
Nice staff. The breakfast is ok.

Room Tip: If you are not a smoker, avoid smoking rooms! They smell awfully!
