“Nice hotel, good location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

First trip to Moscow.. Hotel was close to my office, but also convenient to the train. Only 2 stops to Red Square. Breakfast was plentiful and a good set of choices. Room was very basic, but clean and a decent size.

Room Tip: I liked the big round "reading pillow" from the closet and the free water from the minibar...

The hotel is decent and clean. "Scandinavian pure style", extreme simple but the stylishness is missing. Breakfast is ok. Internet is free of charge.
The hotel is located Ina safe area.
Honestly value for money is poor. Simple "Hotel Campanile standard" for a huge amount of money.

Dear guest, Hotels in Moscow can be expensive at times since the demand is very high. Our other hotel has better rates - have a look here on Tripadvisor for Katerina Park!

The hotel had a good location overlooking part of the Moskva river, and was a short 5 minute walk from the moscow metro and 2 stops from the bolshoi/red Square depending on the exit you take from the metro. The traffic in and out of the city is murder 24/7 so if you can spend the time to work out the metro and at 27 rubles a trip its a great cheap way to travel throughout moscow. The plus points for the hotel are its location, cleanliness, bar area, breakfast room and free mini bar with water, juice and crisps/biscuits replenished each day. The food was excellent at breakfast and a great way to set you up for a days sightseeing. The only small negative is the size of the standard rooms which are more geared for the 1 night business traveller than the tourist staying a few days. We stayed here as part of a go-russia tour and it was an excellent place to enjoy the best of the tourist landmarks. There are plenty of good cafes and restaurants in the location to suit all pockets. The staff were attentive and well informed and more than happy to help with recommendations and advice.

Dear guest, thank you for advice about metro - it is really efficient. Can be tricky with signs only in Russian, but with a map it is doable. Glad you liked the breakfast, the free minibar and service of staff! Hope to see you with us again in the future!

A pleasant check in, although the receptionist told us the wrong time to meet our group in the morning so we were an hour early! A good breakfast selection, clean room, good shower. Twin bed a little narrow but warm and comfy. Exellent use of downstairs spa late at night before we left to catch the overnight train to Petersburg - much appreciated! Situated near to the Swiss hotel tower - it's a must to go up to their K34 tower bar. Food and drink are very very good and the view of Moscow at night is brilliant!

Dear guest, I am glad you had a pleasant check in, liked the breakfast selection, clean room and shower. Great that you had time to use the relax area. Good tip about the Sky Bar - the view is amazing, Moscow is well lit at night.
Hope to see you soon again!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

I’m giving this detailed review in the hope that the management will continue with their predominantly good services and rectify the few negative elements…our stay at Katerina was split in 2 periods as we flew into Moscow, went to Petersburg for 4 days and returned to Moscow to catch our flight back home…We checked in at Katerina city hotel in Moscow on Friday 27th of July and checked out on July 30th Monday to catch the 6.30 am sapsan to Petersburg. We again checked in on Friday, aug 3rd , I left in the afternoon and my son checked out the next morning to catch our return flight out of the country

The plus points of this stay were:
The location—from SVO, I could take the aeroexpress to belorussky station and take the green line metro from there to Paveletsky… the hotel is some 500m from the metro station… my son could take the aeroexpress from DME straight to Paveletsky. For all our sightseeing trips, the metro access was convenient. We also liked the proximity of the 'prodiukti' продукты –convenience food store nearby from where we could get our milk, bread etc
We also loved the scenic view from our room.. the canal and Novopassky monastery

The double room we had for our 1st stay was good, the single room we got for the 2nd stay for the same price(!) was cramped with no view

The girls at the lobby were uniformly smart, fluent in English, checkin was fast and pleasant. We told them we don’t consume the soda with gas and the cococola drinks they had provided as part of their daily free minibar and asked if they can replace these with regular mineral water and fruit juice which they had also provided.. it was done at once… for the rest of the days, there were 4 mineral water bottles instead of the usual 2, but no extra fruit juices.. we did not mind as it seemed to be just an oversight.. the other items in the minibar as mentioned in the other reviews were good as well..

The breakfast was good with options for vegetarians

Now for the negatives
The young man at the lobby was always unhelpful.. when we enquired about the registration of our visa, he replied haughtily.. the girl who was also present, intervened and told us it was done and we can collect it.

on the 1st check out, we had asked for an early vegetarian breakfast at 5 am, the girl said it’ll be no problem and we gave them a written list of stuff we can eat just to ensure they understand what we need as vegetarians—bread, cheese, yoghurt, fruit juice and fruit .. at night we gave them a call to remind about the breakfast, the young man picked up and said it won’t be possible.. we told him it has been arranged with the girl before him and any way we are not asking for cooked items….in the morning, when we went down to check out, a young man put out a plate of some slices of tomatoes, zucchini and green pepper in the restaurant area in the lobby.. we waited for him to bring us the other items so that we can just pack and go.. he came back and asked us if we needed coffee or tea—we said neither.. just some juice.. and bread please.. he brought juice and 3 small triangles of bread for the both of us and left.. we were wondering how to handle this and went to the usual breakfast area to look for him.. he was nowhere in sight.. we gave up and left..

when we returned the next Friday at 11am, we told them that their early breakfast had been a fiasco for us and vegetarians may usually need bread, cheese, yoghurt.. not just some slices of raw vegetables as their meal.. we had given them a written list as well…the hotel Roses where we had stayed at Petersburg had packed a very good breakfast bag for us before we checked out at 5.30 am… each bag had a sandwich with 3 big slices of buttered bread, adequate cheese, a few veg slices, 2 hard boiled eggs, an orange and an apple .. the young man said the supplies had not come (!!), hence the problem

I left that afternoon and only my son needed breakfast the next day.. we assumed that has been addressed.. my son’s flight was at 10.30, he needed his breakfast at 7 am.. on our previous stay their breakfast time had been from 7—10.. however he was informed their time had changed to 8… he faced the situation of just an apple and orange in his breakfast bag.. he asked for bread and was given 2 small triangles .. he did not want to waste his time, so he left

we are surprised at this experience … it should not be that difficult for a hotel to give some slices of bread and cheese to a customer who is leaving early, the breakfast is included in the bill .. or if they want to refuse they should do so in advance so that we can make our own arrangements.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view.. the canal view is pretty

Dear Gina, thank you very much for taking time to write your detailed review. Our aim is to give impeccable service and feedback like yours is very valuable to us. I am glad that you in general enjoyed your stay. However I sincerely regret we did such a poor performance with the early breakfast, we have implemented a new procedure already and the loss information will not be repeated. I really hope we will have the opportunity to see you at our hotel again.
Best wishes Katerina

We arrived here after 2 nights on the sleeper train, tired and dusty. Although too early to check in they made us welcome and suggested we use the downstairs spa while our room was prepared - perfect. Spotlessly clean showers, fluffy towels, big jacuzzi. Our room was large, with a view over the river and big opening windows. Snow outside but plenty of warmth inside. Food and service was excellent, the breakfast buffet had small amounts regularly refreshed. Reception has TVs in several languages above seating area (handy if you don't read Cyrillic). Metro station and shops are within a short walk.

Room Tip: River view means you can see a gilded church and really know you are in Moscow.

It was a very nice hotel, and the staff were very helpful. The breakfast buffet was good, and had a nice variety. The room was quiet, well decorated, with a comfortable bed and a good desk and there is free WiFi throughout the hotel. The complimentary mini bar was enjoyable and re-stocked daily. The room also had a nice view of the canal and river. Besides the hotel restaurant, there are several other nice places to eat within easy walking distance. The only downside was the metro stop was a little bit of a walk, about 10 to 15 minutes, but I would definitely stay there again, and recommend it to others.
