Just outside of Moscow magnifient site, Catherine's Palace. Bombed and fired upon during the war.Russia has restored this "grand dame" to its original. Amassed in this palace are huge gilted walls with gorgeous plaster work, mirrored walls and Amber Room. The gold work is amazing. This is the site of the famed Amber Room which disappeared during the Nazi occupation of St. Petersburg. The story goes it was looted by the Germans, never to be seen again. The keepers of the palace hid away lots of items, but they could not get the amber from the walls and had to leave it They have reconstructed this roomand the whole palace from old photographs... it is not to be missed.
Please note on the walls as you leave are photographs of the "before" the total wreckage of this glorious building.
