After a few minor blips we sorted out our holiday to Russia which we decided on after some deliberation and much consultation with Bath Travel particularly over obtaining Visas. All sorted we set off for Heathrow Airport only to see on the departure board - BA Flight to Moscow at noon cancelled. A replacement flight was on offer at 9.00pm possibly with Aeroflot! Things can only get better – and how they did!
A very helpful desk clerk, Richard who was initially unaware of the cancellation, took nearly an hour to come with a flight also round midday with Transaero a Russian company. We did ask for an upgrade on our return flight if possible.
The flight with Transaero was great – easily equivalent to first class with BA – a good meal, free wine and newspapers and magazines. Things are looking up.
Everything from there was perfect. A beautiful snowy greeting in Moscow, certainly not too cold for February, lovely hotel, we were met spot on time by an extremely informative guide. All other appointments were exactly as arranged, wonderful museums, galleries and tour of Moscow City. We explored the Metro with its fantastic stations, after the guide had explained how to get there, and our guide was kind enough to help us arrange a trip to the Circus.
After the two days in Moscow, we were taken to the station, by the taxi driver and we were feeling perhaps a little confused as to how to get onto the right train (everything in Russian) but to our delight we were met by yet another guide to put us safely in the right direction. Then the train trip, Business Class in a superb spotless high speed train (Sap San) – greeted by extremely smart attendants – think they were all models. Food and drink provided along with a very comfortable journey.
We were met and greeted in St. Petersburg, and taken to a superb hotel the Ambassador. Once again another very informative guide and the trips were superb, and the taxi driver was very friendly, and introduced us to the highlights of St. Petersburg a very beautiful city once again in the snow, which complemented the holiday. The guide kindly booked us for the Mirinsky Theatre to watch the Sleeping Beauty Ballet, which was truly memorable.
Time to go home. Arrived at the airport only to find that we had been upgraded – another superb flight – food, wine, newspapers, magazines and only three and a quarter hours from the UK. Another extremely enjoyable journey.
Many thanks to Nicky and Helen of Bath Travel, Shanklin, Isle of Wight for all your efforts, which made this an extremely enjoyable and memorable holiday, which we would highly recommend to anybody and have photographs if anyone would wish to see them. We will be back again soon.
