“Nice Hotel shame about the location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

The Renaissance Monarch is a very comfortable well run business hotel with good facilities. The hotel has an excellent gym and pool and our room (admittedly an upgrade) was very large with lots of good features.

The room was light and airy, comfortable beds, large (hard) sofa and all modern amenities. The breakfast buffet is extensive and good quality with an omelette station.

As others have said, one surprise is the cost of wifi in the rooms (it is free in the lobby) which was expensive.

The main problem with the hotel is its location. A 10 - 12 minute walk from Dinamo metro station and other than one large office block there is very little of interest anywhere near and very few restaurants. There is a small adjoining shopping centre with a supermarket in the basement but other than there, it will be a journey into the centre to find decent restaurants.

Unless I absolutely had to be in the area, I would probably stay elsewhere next time

I stayed here for four nights recently on my first trip to Russia in over 15 years. I had an almost completely positive experience bar one thing. The smoking inside the hotel...

I am sorry but in 2013 I think we all know that smoking is bad for you. Cultural differences aside, I cannot believe an international hotel chain would endanger its staff and hotel guests by allowing people to smoke in common area's in the lobby.

Now, onto the good stuff.

The breakfast is excellent, a great spread of food along with freshly cooked options if you desire.

The staff were very friendly and more than willing to help me with my questions.

The room was well appointed, good functional bathroom with a shower and separate bath. Mini bar and wireless internet throughout the hotel at a cost. The bed was very comfortable with a wide selection of pillows to ensure you sleep well. Good sized desk for the business traveller, along with IO access to the LCD TV for connecting your laptop to.

The gym is one of the best I have seen in many years. They also have a day spa with all the normal options.

The location is about a 50 minute walk from the Kremlin, alternatively you can ride the subway which will take approx 15 minutes. There is a small shopping centre with a food outlet next to the hotel if you need supplies.

I will be staying here again in the coming months and do look forward to it. Aside from the smoking this is a nice place with some great qualities.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights while visiting Moscow.
My room was well appointed and new, nicely furnished in the typical renaissance style .It was located at the back overlooking the football pitch so there is no noise.
The Breakfast buffet was very generous and rich for all guests needs.
There is just two restaurants near this hotel one is opposite the hotel across the highway (Uzbek restaurant) and the other was a SUBWAY near metro station , But there is a mall back side of the hotel , there is a supermarket in the its basement which you can buy everything even some food.
The only drawback with this hotel is the location, as it is not in the immediate city center. You need about 15 minutes’ walk to get to Dinamo Metro station in line 2 (green line) which is four stops from the Red square. It’s a chance, the metro stations are a tourist sight themselves so worth the visit.
The Wi-Fi in the public areas is free and worked reasonably well.
Totally very good hotel but Not good for holiday-making.

Stayed here for 5 night while visiting Moscow. This is a top class hotel, with all amenities you can think of, including an indoor pool, a great fitness center, shops and a decent bar.

Had a large twin room with two spacious and comfortable beds, a couple of chairs and a couch and an effective workspace area. The large bathroom had separate shower and bathtub, and was well equipped.

Breakfast was fantastic!

The only drawback with this hotel is the location, as it is not in the immediate city center. You need about 15 minutes to get to Dinamo Metro station, and from there you can hop on line number 2 down to most of Moscows main attractions.

All in all a great hotel!

Room Tip: Get as high as possible, the view is great. Room nr. 2 on each floor, eg. 502, 602, 702 and so on ar...

Quick summary: a good business class hotel with all of the expected amenities, except free wifi in the rooms (free available in public areas.) Comfortable room, with dining options in the neighborhood.

This hotel was recommended by our local office in Moscow, which helped with managing the traffic congestion endemic to Moscow. Room # 1504 felt spacious, and the king bed with duvet was comfortable. Good closet space, and MOST of the amenities you expect of a good business-class hotel, i.e. in-room safe; coffee/tea maker; quiet, well-functioning AC.

What was the big thing missing? They charge for wifi/internet in the room. REALLY???? In this day and age, for a business-oriented hotel? This was the ONLY hotel in a 6-week trip that actually charged for wifi in the room. The wifi in the public areas is free and worked reasonably well, but given what is expected in business hotels these days...

The bathroom was roomy enough with a combined tub/shower, nice toiletries, plenty of space to spread out, etc.

Very good housekeeping throughout.

A disappointment was the food service -- nothing bad, but more serviceable than impressive. However, the omelet man at breakfast made very good cooked-to-order eggs. The breakfast spread was a good array with the usual fruits, pastries/breads, cold items, etc., but selection and quality is just okay for a hotel that aspires at this level.

The bar/lounge did the job, but felt overpriced - not unusual for Moscow hotels. Again, serviceable, but nothing that really impressed me. Given these food-related experiences, and the fact that the dinner menu looked expensive and not that interesting, we dined out in the neighborhood, which has a number of good options.

The hotel service personnel were professional and friendly - a nice improvement from some stays in Moscow over the years. They take service quality seriously here.

The area is out of the city center, but a short walk to a metro station. Even so, the somewhat residential quality to the neighborhood, with shops and cafes, made this an enjoyable area that feels a little more real than right in the tourist district.

I did not have to use it, but the business center looks like it would do a good job.

So: I'd be happy to stay here again, and feel that the price/value is good compared to my experiences at other hotels in past years, but I hope they improve their wifi/internet policies by that time.

We stayed here because our client (Baker Hughes) is located in the connected business center. The hotel was excellent. Great security. Spacious rooms and bathrooms. We got access to the Club Lounge which had a great selection of food and drinks. Great place for Americans. A 10 minute cab ride down to Red Square. Very far from DME airport, but everything is.

Almost 13000 Rubles/night for a basic room. Imagine my surprise when I found out breakfast wasn't included - and that they want another 800 per day for internet. Even more irritating was that the almost 20 Euro/day was only for one device - so not able to use my iPad without forking out another 800 Rubles per day. Unacceptable nowadays - and greedy which creates an immense amount of badwill.
My room faces the main road outside (front of the hotel) and the sound of traffic is overwhelming. Restaurant was closed for a private party - but the bar was open for those wanting to eat at the hotel. Sloooooow, impolite service. The food however was very good - and actually good value.
All-in-all, still a massive disappointment - especially given the fact that its in a dull, bland area where there's nothing to do. For this price - this doesn't come close to meeting my standards.
