“Our safe haven in Moscow”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2009

I traveled to Moscow for an extended weekend holiday together with my mother. Park Inn Sadu was a friend's recommendation, and we were 100% happy with this choice. The architecture of the hotel was a strange mixture of postmodernism and Russian neo-classical style. Logistically it has a nice location: almost next to Tretjakov Gallery, two metro stations nearby (Polyanka&Tretjakovskaya), Red Square within walking distance (I'd say it was 2km).

I found our room better in real life than what it seemed in the photos seen in advance. A funny detail was that we asked for a non-smoking room, but found an ashtray in the room anyway. As the room smelled fresh, it didn't matter. We were right above the enterance, and thus there was some noise from the street, but not too much. This is a new hotel, so the room was neat, but I wouldn't call the interior design trendy. The room was quite simple, but I found it cozy nonetheless. It was rather large. Beds and the shower/bath were comfortable. The safe in the room functioned rather arbitrarily despite accurate following of the instructions, and I was told that this is a problem they have in all the rooms. It gave me some grey hair during the trip (first locking my valuables in the safe without being able to get them out, then getting the safe stuck with my valuables ourside and no place to put them, etc). I wish they'd replace them.

Hotel staff at the reception desk was very helpful, although I wouldn't call their English elaborate. They gave us hints on cultural activities and even booked tickets for us. I was quite pleased with their service. Not all the waiters in the restaurant spoke English, and housekeepers certainly didn't. We took the buffet breakfast, the selection and quality of which was average/OK. We also ate one night in the restaurant, the food was decent and European in style.

It was always a pleasure to return to Sadu with sore feet after a long day downtown.

Comfortable clean hotel rather clinical perhaps. The bar is a tad boring but are'nt hotel bars normal. Staff friendly helpful with good English. Great Irish pub within walking distnace for beer and good food.

Within walkable distance of Red Square etc and close to the Metro

The Park Inn Sadu Hotel is a downtown Moscow hotel at a moderate price [approx $150/nite]. It is conveniently located just across the river and a 10-20 minute walk from the Red Square / St Basel / Kremlin sites. It was recently constructed [2007] so everything was clean and in good working order during our 2009 visit. Our travel planner chose it for us; I’m not sure we would have found it on our own.

Our room was on the small side and it felt cramped to have a queen size bed plus small work area. We had to climb over our open suitcases, especially when we did some unpacking and re-arranging for our upcoming bicycle tour in the countryside. One can only assume that space is a premium near downtown.

While close to the areas most often visited by tourists and Russians alike, the hotel itself is on a drab side street with little vehicular and pedestrian traffic. It stands alone rather than being amidst posh properties in a hotel district. The view from our room was mediocre.

Front desk English was good – which after a long flight from the USA was both welcome and re-assuring. Internet is available via wifi. Internet prices are expensive – R430 [$13] for an hour or R720 [$22] per 24 hours. The elevators were efficient. The Breakfast buffet served in the café adjacent to the lobby was wholesome with good variety and mixture of local and international choices including eggs, bacon, yogurts, fruit, cheeses, meats, and juices. The café staff also spoke English. The breakfast area gets a bit overrun when a tour bus full of guests arrive at their scheduled time. The lobby is small, modestly furnished, and quite full of cigarette smoke. It is definitely not a place to linger.

Our room was clean and in good condition. The bed had a comfortable, medium firmness mattress [not the new pillow-top variety]. The linens were average. The bathroom was clean.

Justback from the trip to Moscow. Spent 2 nights in the Park Inn Sadu. I was staying in the 'business room' (#722) and everything was great! AC works just fine, view from the window is very reasonable (my room was facing the street and one can see even the glimpse of the 'Peter/Columbus' statue). The hotel itself, feels rather new and modern. The breakfast choice is quite fine, with typical hotel choice of crambled eggs/pancakes, etc. Had a lunch during the day in the restaurant and some drinks during at night. Food in the restaurant is fine, and reasonably priced for Moscow. The service was great and I cannot say a bad thing about neither restaurant nor hlpdesk guys (even a bigger compliment considering it is Moscow :)). Got my stuff locked in the rooms safe and the lady was summoned to help in in a few minutes, even though it was late evening already. Everybody all smiles and trying to help. Leave some tips for the guys in the restaurant and they will be great as well ;)

All in all, I would call the hotel the perfect combination of price/quality and really recommend staying there.

Reasonably well located (but don't believe the '10 minute walk to Red Sq' hype), the rooms were basic/functional, with a small flat screen TV and passable selection of English language channels. The beds were comfortable with good linen and the tiny bathroom managed to include a tub and excellent shower. The breakfast buffet was also very acceptable. The hotel is let down by the dodgy wifi connection, the grubbiness of the carpet in my room (416) and my assumption that other rooms are similar and it's staff who, for the most part, were either indifferent to the needs of their guests or unable to cope with the demands of a full hotel. Both traits were freely exhibited in the Sadu Cafe/bar. Overall I thought the Park Inn offered poor value for money and avoid a hotel that only had guest reviews in Dutch or French
