“Great location. Adequate Standard. Decent value.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2011

Please note that this a “Novotel Resort” and not like a regular “Novotel” so the facilities and standards are not the same. Secondly, I would like to add a warning for anyone who is planning to come from Pierrefonds airport. There is no direct public transport from Pierrefonds to anywhere in the north or centre of the Island. Flights to Pierrefonds may be cheaper but you will pay at least 80-130 Euros in one-way taxi fee between this Novotel and Pierrefond. The hotel does have arrangements for travel between Roland Garros, which is much cheaper.

Bedroom – As many other reviewers have mentioned, it really could do with a new coat of paint. My room had definite signs of damp on the walls near the aircon unit. You get a desk unit and adequate storage spaces. An in-room safe and a fridge are provided. No iron or ironing board, which I have always had at every other Novotel I’ve used. Instead you have to use the “ironing room” near reception which has just one iron and ironing board so it could be inconvenient if several people want to use it as once. TV has no English language channels whatsoever, not even BBC News or CNN, which was a little annoying. Free wifi made up for that though. There is decent amount of closet space

Bathroom – split in two with separate WC and shower rooms. Not a very practical way of doing things as other reviewers have mentioned. Seeing as this is a French hotel in a French territory I would have expected a bidet so disappointed there wasn’t one. usual Novotel toiletries, which are of a decent quality. Towels didn’t smell clean – faint whiff of body odour. Shower over bath, which unfortunately was loose so you have to hold the shower head to shower as it won’t stay up on the wall. Saw a lot of ants in the bathroom(s).

Facility – We did suffer the occasional powercut, but it never lasted too long. There are two large pools. Lots of entertainment and activities for kids. Tennis courts. A bar and restaurant where the main meals are available. There is also a Europcar car rental desk and a Tourist Excursions desk too, both of which are very useful.

Locale – this is a fantastic location. The beautiful L’Hermitage beach is at the back of the hotel. Come out of the front entrance and turn right and you will soon come across a supermarket, ATM, lots of restaurants and retail outlets. Buy your food and drink here, as the hotel prices are bad value for money.

Language barrier – when it comes to complaints here about language issues, I think this one comes down to your attitude. If you are visiting any of the Indian Ocean islands then it’s sensible to learn a little bit of French beforehand. If you are visiting Reunion then it is foolish NOT to learn some French beforehand. This is, technically, a part of France after all. I picked up and rifled through a phrasebook a week before I arrived and even though my French was very poor, everyone I dealt with in Reunion, both inside and outside the hotel, was appreciative that I was at least making an effort. I would recommend at least some basic preparation.

Room Tip: Close to reception as possible is best. Ideally beach facing.

I stayed in this 3* hotel 2 nithgs in november 2011 with my fiancee.
The room was clean and large, with a large coach . Bathroom is not very practical but it remains a small detail.
You have your private balcony with a view on the mountains or the swimming-pool and beach depending of the room.
There are two swimming pools a usual one and the other one has massage jets.
Breakfast is very exotic (lots of local fruits and juices) and yet french (croissants, jam, coffee...).
Restaurants serve Reunion and french cuisine : both are very tasty.
The beach is 100 meters from the hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms with views on the sea are probably nicer than the mountains side.

Two of my colleagues and I spent two nights at the hotel whilst doing business at La Port.

The check in was fine - a very helpful and pleasant lady helped us check in - in English

The rooms are far from luxuries.
They are old and in desperate need of upgrade.
Our room was described as superior- I’d hate to see the standard.
The room was clean however.
The TV didn’t work - the aircon was old and noisy.
You have to stand in the bath if you wanted a shower - and it’s a case of a drip drip shower.

The hotel itself is old and in desperate need of an overall upgrade. - and the hotel is not cheap.

The amenities were good - 2 large pools - nice bar - and restaurant.
The staff were generally friendly.

There is a gate that allows one access to the beach - there are lots of small bars and restaurants nearby.

In fairness this is only a three star hotel - and most of the people don’t speak English - then again why should you - the island is part of France.

Room Tip: Make sure you face the pool and not the road.

This is not a luxury beach resort, it's an ageing, three star Novotel close to a beach. If you accept that you will be fine. The public areas are in fact not too bad. There is a nice bar, restaurant and pleasant gardens. The rooms though are poor and in desperate need of a refurb.

There is a gate that gives direct access onto the charming Hermitage beach. There are a number of good restaurants nearby - our favourite was La Bobine right on the beach and five minutes walk. We found the hotel staff very nice and helpful - it always helps to try to speak a little French.

Overall not too bad although would probably not stay again.

Room Tip: Use the many excellent local restaurants rather than the hotel's restaurant.

Would thoroughly recommend this hotel for teenagers - they have badminton, tennis, table tennis, two pools with spa and the beach out the back gate - daily programs like water aerobics, archery - access to gym down the road. Staff are really lovely. Room had queen with single and one pull out single - tight but all you need - room service was fantastic for one of our included breakfasts - price is really good travelling with kids. Highly recommend it - was the highlight of our stay - would definitely stay there is going again
