“Perfect stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

Rarely I felt so much at home so far from home.

We - a family of 2 adults and 2 kids - spent 10 days at Villa Creole, one of the bigger Creole style houses of Senteur Vanille. A beautiful villa, with perfect garden, view on the bay, supernice veranda and everything you'd like to have at home, including all possible home appliances and a barbecue.
The house itself is perfect, with fresh big rooms, big functional kitchen, confortable bathrooms and very nice furniture. Recently renovated (or built?) and extremely clean.
We had our own space and privacy.

Senteur Vanille is also very convenient - if you have a car - to reach the amazing beaches of L'Hermitage and Boucan Canot, probably among the best in the island.

What made us feel at home was also the kindness of the owners, who helped us to enjoy not only our stay at the Villa, but also our trip in La Reunion... and we could also enjoy some homegron fresh fruit!

We stayed 5 nights. The booking was very good, and no problems with contacting Marie Claude to confirm the booking. We arrived late at night, it would be difficult to find without a navigation system, but we had no problems.

On arrival we were brought straight to our lodge, it was beautiful and very clean. The next morning the view was fantastic of the Indian Ocean. There was no problem with farm machinery or noise as commented elsewhere. Positives - Guillaume, the owners son, is very nice and friendly. He managed the majority of our stay and was very helpful. The view is fantastic. There is a great bakery down the road called Kasta where we got our breakfast from every day. There is a BBQ which we used, and a large supermarket called Super U nearby which has good food at a good price. It is located near a motorway (you will not hear it). You will hear the waves of the ocean.

Negatives - It was expensive compared to other places we have stayed and for what you get. There was only one piece of toilet roll and there was no soap or dishwashing liquid or bin bags present. You literally have to buy absolutely everything including salt sugar cooking oil etc, so factor that into your costs, so if you are not staying for long it works out a lot more expensive. Also, we believed there was internet in the lodge, however there is no internet in the lodge. There is one spot that has internet a short walk away however the internet is very bad and you can not make a call on skype or viber apps using this internet. Also, although there was an AC or air conditioner unit in the lodge this did not work as the remote to switch it on was removed, so that was annoying especially as it gets very hot at times. The kitchen is also quite small. Main negatives were no internet in the lodge as expected, and no working air conditioner.

Apart from that the owners are lovely people and gave us some fruit and jam to taste.

Room Tip: We stayed in a lodge which had a fantastic view of the ocean. Sitting out there at night is very pea...

Having arrived late at night, courtesy of kind pick up by owner's son (in his pick-up!), we entered a gorgeous room+kitchen (must see pic). Next morning woke up to open-deck patio/balcony (equipped with a table, chairs and a sun chair) for view over a forest of beautiful palm trees, with the sea in the distance.

This chalet is utterly wonderful. Complete with downstairs separate (also en suite) room for guests who want their own privacy. There is a fully equipped kitchen on one side of the upstairs bedroom, and a barbecue area outside. We enjoyed making our breakfasts/dinner and having them on the balcony while watching the many exotic birds that flew by visiting the orchard. The patio/balcony can even be left open overnight to listen to the ambient sounds (bed has built- in mosquito net). Both showers have stone floors that give impromptu foot sole massage. All in all, very stylishly decorated, too. We really can't praise too highly enough how beautiful these chalets are.

Most people drive to and from the local shops and the beach but we found we could walk it in 45 mins, including passing the local supermarket to pick up our goodies for a beach picnic. (Ours was on Christmas Day - awesome!) You will walk through the orchards (mango and lychee) and a lovely shaded palm tree alley at first. Owner encouraged us to pick up fruit fall, including spectacular mango selection (see picture).

Another plus of the location is that it’s not far from the spectacular and famous Trois Bassins waterfalls.

Highly recommended: DON'T MISS!

We stayed twice at Senteur Vanille and we have always enjoyed it. Don’t be put off by pathway to reach the property, at the end you will find a hidden gem.

Having experienced both the lodge and the studio, here are our feedback.

Both, lodges and studios, are well decorated, nicely furnished and well equipped. They offer a quiet and relaxing atmosphere.

The lodges are spacious, intimate with a private terrace and offer a good view on the Indian Ocean. They are located in a mango and litchi orchard.

The studios are smaller (and cheaper), but less intimate. They are in the middle of a very well maintained tropical garden and each of them has a small terrace. The smells are superb and you can observe a beautiful sampling of local birds and flowers.

The owner is nice and her son Guillaume, who is looking after the guests, is very helpful and professional.

If you enjoy staying in a special place away from the crowd while remaining close to the sea side resort, we recommend you stay at Senteur Vanille

We stayed at Santeur Vanille in a lodge (2 floors) for 10 days. We enjoyed every single day - the incredible view, the birds songs all day long and the location in the middle of a farmers fruit plantation are fantastic. Don't expect the proper resort style you might find on Mauritius. It's a lodge on a plantation of a fruit farmer and therefore you might find machines and workers on the way to your lodge. However this has never been any disruption in terms of noise or privacy. A car is helpful to reach the beach, the bakery and some decent restaurants within 5-10min. The owner family has great recommendations and was available whenever we needed them. If there is one thing we could improve then it would be the bed. It might be slightly bigger and more stable. All in all we had a fantastic stay and we highly recommend it to anyone.

We stayed in the lodge here for 3 days and our only problem was we couldn't stay longer! The lodge was set in the middle of a mango orchard in what is essentially a working farm. Driving up the very rough track and passing the farm machinery you may wonder what you have let yourself in for. However once you arrive in the lodge you can forget everything except the wonderful view to the sea and the impeccably furnished balcony and interior. The welcome was also excellent with nothing too much trouble for the hosts.
Two important points for "les rosbifs" like us; the lodge was mosquito free during our stay ; the hosts are Reunionaisse but speak perfect English.

The only real disavantage to the place is that you need to have a drive to go to any restaurants. However the facilities in the lodge are good enough to feel comfortable preparing a good sized meal and the view is better than you will find in any restaurant!
