We went to this place just to have lunch and to relax a bit. But it was really disappointing. It was overcrowded and it doesn't have enough parking lots. It was really terribe. We tried the hotel restaurant but they said it's closed. We ended up going back to Bacolod hungry and disappointed.

I literally have been all over the Philippines and this resort, if you want to call it that was one of the biggest rip-offs I have experienced in the RP. The staff was completely clueless. I took a party of 11 people and they brought one menu (with no prices). I asked for more menu's, and they said thats the only one (no kidding the only one in the entire resort). I explained that there is no prices, they said ask and we will tell you. It didn't really matter because everything on the menu I would eat was out of stock. I ended up just getting drunk since there was nothing to eat. All the kids went swimming and then when my wife tried to swim they made her get out of the pool. They said her swimming attire didn't conform to there rules. She was wearing swimming shorts (female style swimming short/shorts), and the staff (get this!, I am not making this up) said she had to wear bikini type bottoms. Which I will not allow her to wear. I stayed calm and said we have been all over the world and no other resort in the RP or ANYWHERE else had ever had a problem with her swim suit. They said sorry sir. its our rule. So I rounded up all the kids and all of her family and said lets go I am not spending another dime in this rathole. Then I started to be charged for everything I touched while inside the resort. Chairs, tables we sat at, places we stood (no kidding), they knew we where leaving and wanted to squeaze as many pesos as they could before we got out of the gate. The wine I was drinking a cheap house type wine was charged to me at 1400php a bottle when earlier I was told 600PHP a bottle which was overpriced at the quoted price. I went to the manager and complained but it was like I was talking to a non-personality. Half of the falls where shut down due to landslide fears. I am a white American married to a filipina and I speak fluent bisaya, and this is a warning to any other foreigners considering visiting this place. This resort is uniquely terrible, you will be ripped off. I am not talking about the normal overcharge you might be accustomed too some other places in the RP. I have lived in the RP and expect that nominal extra fee for being a foreigner, this place is almost criminal. Maybe I caught them on an extra bad day, because 2 other reviewers gave them 3 stars. How? This place could be awsome if ran correctly because it is beautiful. Just go to the Palmas del Mar and save yourself the grief.

  • Liked — The natural landscape, the falls are beautiful. Good place to see different bats.
  • Disliked — The service! Worst place I have been in the Philippines.

Pleasant enough for a couple of days but not more than that. Plenty of walks, plus the hot springs, and 7 waterfalls so there is plenty of scenery.

Mini food court with 3 restaurants serving pretty much the same food. Cheap and good though.

Accommodation was basic but cheap.

A nice side trip from Bacolod but don't expect too much.

Me, my wife and our daughter visited Mambukal Hot Spring Resort in September 2007. We booked what looked like modest accommodation. When we arrived, we were taken to our room. As an ex Army man, the accommodation block reminded me of the barrack accommodation we had going through basic training. Needless to say, I lasted around 37 seconds before I headed back down the broken concrete roads and paths to reception where I requested we be moved to whatever they had as their best accommodation. This was self contained cabins that externally looked very nice. Internally was a different story. All the doors on cupboard had been removed or fallen off. The roof leaked in one corner and the mildew was not only evident but rather pungent. There are no queen or even double beds, only 2 x single beds per cabin. We solved this problem by pushing both beds together and all 3 of us slept in the one bed.

There are many attractions to see and do once you get settled in. One of the scariest features is a pool of water that is heated b the volcano that is situated next to the resort. There is a small wall about 2 feet tall that protects visitors from the potential fatal burns you will get if you fall in. There is a warning sign but it is easily missed if you’re not looking for it.

The swimming pools are nice but could do with some maintenance.

Lots of tracks to walk through the forests which are peaceful.

Spend an hour or so in a canoe paddling around the lake, it was good fun and very peaceful.

Meals are cooked and served in an open restaurant / café. Good food and well priced.

The entire place could do with a face lift. This would make such a difference and attract far more tourists.
