We went to this place with very high expectations. There was so much to do on the property - we were never bored. The rooms are elegant and clean. The staffs very friendly and polite. Everyone greeted us with a smile and knew our names within a couple of days. It is much quieter, you don't have loud doors closing at all hours of the night. I think we all slept better than at any otherhotel we have stayed at. This one is a keeper and we can't wait to go back!

Dear Jamesr0ck,

Thank you for coming all the way from Jamaica to visit us! We are glad that, even though you came here with very high expectations, Plantation Bay surpassed these, and was a pleasure for your entire family.

We too can't wait to welcome you back here in the near future.

Overall we were very happy with the plantation bay resort, the grounds are huge and even though the resort was 75 percent full it always seemed empty. The main slide as closed for 2 of the days we were there but there was plenty to do until it reopened. There are 2 very large saltwater lagoons and about 3 or 4 big pools. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My husband did an open water dive course and was really happy with the dive team, the coral and marine life directly off the beach was good. We booked a 1 bedroom suite, in one room we had 2 queen beds in the other a couch, coffee table etc, both rooms were very big, as we're the bathrooms. The only thing that let the hotel down a little we're the restaurants, but the Philippines isn't known for its great food, we really liked the tapas restaurant ( that's we're to get your coffee too). The restaurants are bad but there is a fair bit of room for improvement, especially at savannah. The spa was great!!! Loved it, the gym was fine. All in all we would return. Just keep in mind nothing to do outside the resort and the beach is pretty average (which they make up for with the pools)

Room Tip: Go for 1 bedroom if travelling with kids

Dear BrittonCairns,

We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed our facilities, especially the spa and lagoons. It is nice to know too that your husband was able to explore the corals and marine life just off the coast from our beachfront.

We appreciate your candid critique of your dining experience at our restaurants and would appreciate it if you could write me with more details about which food you found unsatisfactory, so that we can ascertain exactly what the problem was. My email address is gm@plantationbay.com

The attraction that makes this resort unique are the large man-made lagoons (about 3) that encompass much of the place. The rooms are set on the water, on stilts or lagoon-front. The lagoons are fun for kids (and adults) to swim and wade in. The water is pumped in and filtered from the sea. I did not expect to like this place since I like wilder and more natural surroundings but it is a nice place to just relax in. This is beach front property and it has a swimming beach about 400 m long. We rented a villa with its own pool and party hall. I really liked how it was set up. The rooms are well appointed. Very comfortable. Soft duvets and linen.
Unfortunately the resort is located from the city so any exploring and trips to shops and outside restaurants requires planning, and taking a cab and renting the hotel shuttle to get off property. The costs add up if you like to go out and have dinner nightly. We had planned to eat out frequently to experience the many excellent restaurants of Cebu.
The best part of the resort is the Japanese-themed spa. There is Japanese garden set in the middle of the spa rooms. It is so relaxing with the dimly lit surroundings, soft Japanese flute music, and mist. The soaking heated pools are set apart and secluded enough to allow for couples or groups.
The food prices are on the high side, of average quality. We could have gotten more reasonably priced, local, delicious food outside.

We are happy that you appreciated your spacious room accommodations in our Quantum Villa, with its 4 detached bedrooms, private dipping pool, gazebo, and air-conditioned pavilion ideal for family gatherings.

Before we went to Plantation Bay, we read the reviews here so went with "not too high" expectation regarding "nature environment". So we were not put off or surprised when we saw the man-man lagoon and borders and rocks...etc. In fact, we enjoyed ourselves so much, we wished we could extend our stay :)

Staffs and service
The service provided by the staffs were outstanding.... all around! A few calls to housekeeping were met with quick response and smiling staffs (extra pillows to mosquitoes repellent). The name that kept popping up is Ace who helped us get a cart when we first arrived. Whenever we met him, he was extremely friendly, chat easily and really made us feel at home! Awesome service! From the waitresses to the man who taught us archery.... one word - great!

Room
We stayed in the Water Edge Room. We loved it! Yes, it is not sparkling new or super clean, hey, it is beside the salt water lagoon, we went in and out of the pool to the room, so it was difficult to keep it clean all the time. Request for extra floor mat were met quickly. The 2 queen size beds were great, our teenagers and us slept really well. The only thing is that there was no curtain and the lourved windows let in morning light which get pretty bright very early. Some of the wooden lourve were loose, management might want to take a look at them - its Dune 01

Food
We ate at the Italian restuarant and the Kilimanjaro - Food at the Italian restuarant were great, although my 2 teenagers were still hungry after the main meals...haha.. For us adults, it was just nice though. Bread before the meals were fantastic! Our first Phinoy meal at Kilimanjaro were not good though. Might be us but we found the beef soup (forgot the name) very salty. The waitress were very apologetic when we told her. We tried the famous burger at Savannah Grill. The burgers were very good! But found the onion rings much too thin and oily.

Beware mosquitoes
If you are someone who attract mosquitoes, get repellent! Especially at night and also in the daytime at the wall climbing.... that's as natural as can be, we got lots of bites...

All in all, we enjoyed the trip very much!

Before I went, I read a lot of reviews good and bad, was kind of worried about the bad but honestly turned out well. The transport offered by the resort is indeed three times more than a cab, but they don't reject a request if calling a cab for you. There are always cabs waiting around the resort thus it is really not a problem getting out. The food review said Fiji was the best, honestly, it is so wrong. the food was like ok and that is about it. The food in the pasta shop Parlermo was really good, in fact one of the best pasta I have eaten compared to anywhere else. Bread served before meal was so good too. The chef said they made the bread and pasta in house, really good. The floor in the room was often mentioned in reviews, yes it is not perfect, because the rooms are like just next to salt water lagoon so with people walking in and out what do you expect? I think this is a wonderful place if you are looking for a relaxing holiday. highly recommended.

Dear daynema,

Thank you for recommending Plantation Bay to our TripAdvisor readers.

We're happy that you liked our bread and pasta, which we prepare in our own patisserie, and really put a lot of effort into. When you visit us next time, try our croissants and homemade ice cream too!

The atmosphere was very calm, relaxing and welcoming. The no-tipping policy enhances the resort experience, there is only genuine friendliness and hospitality as no one is working only to be tipped but to best accommodate the guests. Furthermore, it helps, as you don't need to bring any cash around the resort whatsoever. Staff are ABSOLUTELY professional, I don't know how they do it, its wonderful!

I put in a few requests beforehand, which were all pleasantly met. Our room had an excellent view and was very clean as well. Furniture and decor seems to be the original but the room seems to have been very well kept over the years and the age doesn't show at all. Classic.

The man-made lagoon and pools are never over-crowded due to the massive amount of space there is. Food (including room service) has quality, I can understand why the resort charges what it charges. Breakfast and dinner themes are wonderful as well, it gives you different choices throughout your stay. Plantation Bay has a total of four restaurants and a Coconut Bar. Yes, food is excellent.

There is just so much to do at this resort, the longer you stay, the more you will cover. This includes the rock climbing wall, putting grounds, a wide range of water sports (kayaking, scuba diving, jet-skiing, island hopping, to name a few), indoor and outdoor children's play area, gym, karaoke bar, biking, game room, a few shops to visit and ofcourse swim! I also loved the golf cart and horse-drawn carriage as a shuttle to take you around the resort, or if you opt to walk, you can do so as well.

The Spa was excellent! The idea of being in its own "village" was just wonderful! Not only that, the spa has a wide variety of many different treatments and facilities such as the cold and warm pools as well as the wet and dry saunas, etc.

I will definitely return to Plantation Bay Resort and Spa in the near future!
