“Must visit place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

if you are visiting Cebu and want to know more of its rich culture and history, this place should be included on your itineraries. The Lapu Lapu Status at the Mactan Shrine is one landmark that you guys should spend a day with.

“A historic site”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

This site is a must for history buffs. Magellan's voyage to circumnavigate the world and his discovery of the Philippines in 1521, sailing from Guadaquivir River in Sevilla, Spain ended here with his death in the hands of Lapu Lapu.

“Yeah! A Statue that is!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

Just like any monument or bust or statue, you are there to witness the landmark, the history and the statue itself.

Lapu Lapu statue in Mactan is where the Filipino warrior Lapu Lapu fought and defeated Magellan. It is located in Punta Engano where it is close to the sea and a nice little park surrounding the statue. It is best to visit the place during sunset till the late evenings at the breeze is cooler and its more relaxing than beating the heat of the sun.

A good 10-15 minutes is the only time you wish to stay here!! Nothing much to see and do here. Not unless you want to go on a little bargain shopping from small stalls nearby that sells souvenirs items from Cebu. shellcrafts, coin purse, native bags and hats etc..

Overall, a visit to simply one of Cebu's best landmarks is also a must for a first timer!

“interesting site”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

This area is a short drive from Cebu city but is worth the trip. The grounds are manicured and nicely set out. A lovely setting on the coast in which to learn some of the history of the Philippines and Magellan.

“Part of Philippine History”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

The LapuLapu Monument depicts the victory of LapuLapu, a local chieftain in Mactan, over the Spanish "conquestadores". He was a brave
Filipino and the first Filipino hero to defend the cause of freedom against a foreign invader. As a tribute to his bravery, this monument was erected on the site of the battle. The monument is regularly visited by tourists. I would like to suggest though that they add more plants and trees around the monument. It would also be good to add more benches for tourists to sit on. And of course to ensure the safety of tourists, policemen should be posted near this area 24/7!
